What we don't have a problem with is secondary causes, which are uncovered by physical clues, not textual exegesis. This does not necessarily mean "Darwinism" (or "Stephen J. Gouldism" or "Francis Crickism" or any number of permutations), but a sincere openness to follow the evidence of chains of causality wherever it leads, even to the Divine Logos whose Law permeates all material order. (Note to Mr. Hawking: that would include the Law of Gravity.)

The Catholic Church has no problem with science describing or postulating HOW God accomplished creation, it is content with THAT He accomplished it.
