“John McCain made it taboo to say the entire name. In addition many people on the Left have tried to imply that in invoking his middle name that we are subtly suggesting he is a Muslim.”

I thought it was racist? Really, I can;t keep up with all of the PC commissariat’s directives, they come and they change so quickly.

Different meanings have been associated with the term “redneck” over the years, but it originally referred to anyone who worked in the sun (a farmer plowing a field for instance). Their clothing covered everything but their neck, and it became RED as they plowed. Consequently, anyone who had to work with their hands and by the sweat of their brow was termed “redneck”. They were not as elite as someone who worked inside (banker, storekeeper, politician)

Now, of course, other adjectives have been added to the meaning (coarse, ignorant, toothless, moonshine drinkers, etc.).

There was a joke floating around not long ago that describes the “rednecks” I know here in central Florida. It went something like: If you were in a fox hole, who would you like covering your back? The answer was “redneck”, because they believe in God and country; are good shots (could shoot a squirrel out of a tree and not mess up the meat); are loyal; and the list went on.
