Open letter to RINO leadership

An Open Letter to the RINO leadership:

I know you are disappointed that the conservative O'Donnell has won the Delaware primary. I can sympathise -- she IS a conservative -- she never claimed to be a RINO, and she does not share your RINO values. And to be perfectly frank, yes, there will be times when she will vote like a conservative instead of like a RINO. I am writing this letter to try to convince you to support her anyway.

First, I will note that RINOs did have a candidate running against O'Donnell. Mike Castle ran a fine campaign, and for a while was even the front runner for the nomination. However, the citizens of Delaware ultimately decided that O'Donnell made the better candidate, after carefully considering the tradeoffs between political views and electability. I respect their decision, and I urge you too (after all, if Mike Castle could not convice half of the Republicans to support him, how is he going to be able to convince half of everyone including democrats to support him?) The primaries are the ideal place to vote your conscience. But now that the primary is over, we need to unify and support the Republican candidate. You will have another chance to put forward a RINO candidate (perhaps even Castle again)... but meanwhile, like it or not, O'Donnell IS the Republican candidate, and the only decision remaining is whether to support the Republican O'Donnell or her Democratic opponent. Because one of those two--- and not Mike Castle --- will become Delaware's senator.

I'd also like to point out that the glass is half-full. Sure O'Donnell won't always side with RINOs, but she will sometimes. Ignoring Delaware for the moment, having more Republican warm bodies helps regardless of whether or not they have RINO views. For example, O'Donnell will side with the Republican Caucus, support a Republican Majority Leader, aid the Republican leadership in committee assignments and procedural votes.

My conclusion is very simple: if you think her democratic opponent will vote your values more often than O'Donnell will, go ahead and vote (D). Hope you enjoy Senate Majority Leader Reid. But if you think O'Donnell, while definitely more of a conservative than a RINO, will still vote for a Republican leader and support at least a few critical RINO ideas, then don't sit this one out. Like it or not, she is the Republican nomineee, and deserves your support.

This isn't as timely as it might be now that Corwyn has expressed his support of her, but here it is anyway.

Interestingly enough, Mike Steel sent a contribution solicitation email congratulating O’Donnell and pledging a full support for O'Donnell from him and RNC:

“The people of Delaware have spoken. And just like voters across America, they are demanding commonsense conservative candidates who will focus on the issues that matter most to them: creating jobs, turning the economy around and protecting our most cherished freedoms.

Christine O'Donnell is exactly that type of candidate and the RNC is proud to support her and our entire slate of Republican candidates in Delaware. “

I like how you parrot back to them what they always squawk at us, how we have to unite and support the PARTY candidate, now that the primary is over. They always say that when the “moderate” wins... now they have to accept it when the winner is not the hand-picked party “moderate”.

The whole point of political party primaries is to nominate candidates for the general election. Republicans in Delaware have made their choice.

The Republicans should be obligated to support the nominee chosen by their voters. That’s a key reason why political parties exist in the first place.

The Republican establishment doesn’t quite understand the Tea Party movement. They are as clueless as Democrats on that issue.

He’s just trying to get money from the O’Donnell supporters so he’ll have plenty to give to the rinos still in the running.

What chaps me is Castle won’t support her but will still get his retirement.

Good phrase - and I will add another southern one - Fish or Cut Bait!

Maybe now Cornyn’s office will answer their phone and turn their fax machine back on.

IF republicans were smart, they would allow the candidates to be chosen by the people in that district, in that jurisdiction, in that locality and in that state, not the republican heirarchy.

You let the people choose for themselves the conservative or republican candidates they like and they will win with a solid message about limited government, cutting government spending and cutting taxes.

Once a republican candidate is chosen, the party should get behind that candidate unless that person has some sort of criminal background or is a certifiable nutjob with a definite history as such like having been in an insane asylum where I think dems get a lot of their candidates (or by trawling through the rosters of the Communist Party).
