In what could only be called a monster upset, upstart tea party candidate Christine ODonnell defeated former Delaware governor and long-time Republican Rep. Mike Castle last night for the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate. Three Fingers of Politics have been ODonnell fans for numerous reasons underdog, ideology, etc., so were happy to see her win. But with this upset comes a sort of victory lap and day-after media tour on national TV, with which weve compiled:

HELP CHRISTINE!!!!
Campaigm = Campaign
I heard A.B. Stoddard, on WLS this morning, say that the way O’Donnell makes her living is questionable. And what would you call the way congress critters make their living?
I was at an economic development breakfast this morning in Wilmington and the people were already making fun of O’Donnell, with the nuts and sluts references — including the women at the event.
Tough road ahead in Delaware.
If the objective was to end Castle’s career, the outcome was a tremendous success. Beyond that, it hurts GOP Senate prospects and it is expected to really hurt down-ballot conservatives here in Delaware, including Colin Bonini running for State Treasurer. This younger breed of conservative challengers WANTED Castle at the top of the ticket given his crossover appeal.
Though I disagreed bitterly with the choice of conservatives for O’Donnell over Castle (see Fred Barnes article this morning), I congratulate the conservatives for what they accomplished yesterday. Most people I know will vote for her in November; many will not given what is believed to be her rigid social positions. My biggest disappointment is the likelihood that these outside groups may truly have hurt the younger breed of GOP candidates inside the State if O’Donnell loses badly in November.
Any dirt on Coons we can start speading around? Or is he an angel?
Kerry, the democrat presidential candidate, I might add, was a kept man. He's living big on the money left by a dead Republican. Without a Republicans money, Kerry would still be making doughnuts.
Please help me understand why the citizens of Delaware want to choose between two liberals rather than a liberal and a conservative to represent them in the US Senate.
Mike Castle was a discrace!
$25 from here in Wisconsin
We got big elections here too.
How about how hack lib journolist A. B. Stoddard makes her living. Writing articles about how the future will turn out.
The most conservative Republican that Delaware will send to DC is a Mike Castle, Scott Brown or Olympia Snowe-type Republican. That is a fact. Didn’t used to be; but is now.
DE used to be a swing state; IIRC it voted with the winner of every presidential race in the 20th century with the exception of 1948, when it chose Dewey over Truman.
All that changed in the 1990s and early 2000s. Delaware experienced a tremendous influx of liberals moving to DE to escape high taxes in VA and MD. Instead of learning from this experience, these idiots began voting in DE for the same people and same policies from which they ran. As a consequence, Delaware is now solid blue.
The other phenomenon that occurred during the same period were stupid women in the suburbs of New Castle County who literally voted against their own husband’s paycheck because of abortion.
We can argue over whether Castle deserved to be punished and whether the GOP threw away an easy takeover of a Democratic seat. Obviously many conservatives believed Castle was beyond redemption, and that this was the only way to achieve this outcome. I do not share this point of view, because I wanted McConnell to be the majority leader and, more importantly, I wanted to build the Delaware GOP with a younger brand of conservative leaders. Unless O’Donnell can stabilize her support within a week, these challengers now will most likely be drowned in a typical Democratic tide. This younger crowd was counting on Castle to be at the top of the ticket so as to get independents to go right down the GOP side of the ballot.
I just watched all these videos. I think she’s great.
The media will be harping bigtime on her negatives. That’s fine as long as they also highlight the negatives of Charlie Rangel, who also won his primary and is up for re-election.
The notion that a liberal would have conservative coattails is anomalous at best.
It seems that some folks never learn their lessons.
Oh c’mon, I just saw the party affiliation in Delaware. There are tons of independents and they can make a huge difference in an election, where the democrats are so depressed and would not even turn up to the polls.
Also, I was very encouraged by the clips of christine’s interviews. She is very elegant and able to answer any question. I really feel like, she might pull this one
Wow, you sounded deeply bitter. Take a deep breath, it is not the end of the world. Nov. hasn’t arrived yet. You don’t know the outcome.
From where I am (DE/PA border), I saw mostly those spilled-over escaping from failed Philadelphia. In this election cycle, they are not going to come out and vote for Coons as much as their support for Obama in 2008.
I don’t know where you are located, but northern New Castle county (north of Wilmington city proper) is somewhat red, except those hippies in Arden.
Those young-uns you are talking about should be glad of O’Donnell’s win. Castle won’t generate as much enthusiam this coming Nov.
