Will Iowa Finally Send a Woman to Congress?

...The race between Miller-Meeks and Loebsack has been as tight as five-six points recently among likely voters (within one poll's margin of error) as Obama's approval ratings in Iowa have sagged.

The two squared off with other minor-party candidates tonight in a debate in Coralville, Iowa.

Via the the Globe Gazette:

One of the sharpest differences (between Republican challenger Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Incumbent David Loebsack) involved the landmark health care reform approved by congressional Democrats. Miller-Meeks called for its repeal "even though I know we would not be able to override a presidential veto."..

Miller-Meeks would repeal health care legislation because of the costs it imposes on business and individuals. Miller-Meeks, a 55-year-old Ottumwa physician and ophthalmologist, wants to keep those parts of the reform package that are "patient-centered, consumer-friendly" and have the potential to lower costs...

However, Miller-Meeks said, "Creating 112 new agencies to oversee health care will only increase cost in the health care bureaucracy, will not lead to further care or increase the quantity or quality of care."..

In 2008, Miller-Meeks campaigned to reform Social Security to allow personal savings accounts, to simplify the tax code (e.g. fair tax or flat tax), to revitalize the GI Bill, and to reform health care by realigning health insurance through a national risk pool with multiple insurance players...

In her 2010 campaign, Miller-Meeks is highlighting a different set of issues, such as opposing amnesty for illegal aliens and securing the nation's borders, cutting spending and government waste, defending 2nd Amendment rights, opposing the "job-killing" cap and trade legislation, and repealing the controversial health care bill passed earlier this year.

We here in Iowa could care less if she's a woman or not, we want somebody besides Pelosi's lap dog and reliable yes man, Dave 'Nosack' Loebsack! Miller-Meeks is a libertarian/conservative candidate with strong dislike for govt solutions. We're working hard for her and think she can whoop Loebsack in November.

Agreed. I so look forward to when we can stop worrying about gender, race, religion, etc. and focus on the important question:

"Will we/they send a Conservative?"
