Hostage release; Good News or Sleight of Hand?

Here is an example of sleight of hand on an international scale in a matter of hours.

The Good News (Misdirection)

Thursday Iran announced it will free Sarah Shourd today. Sarah was one of the three American hikers arrested when they accidently strayed in to Iran July 2009. They were accused of being spies. The official story states “It is traditional in Iran to release prisoners as a gesture of clemency to mark the close of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, which ends this week.” This is wonderful news for Shourd’s family and the America, but we must not forget Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal who are still being held captive.

American Officials have expressed concerns that the trio would be used as leverage in negotiations to curtail Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

What has been Palmed (Hidden)

Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani a 43 year old Iranian mother of two children has been facing death by stoning on charges of adultery.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced the lifting of the death sentence to distract criticism from human rights groups and foreign governments. Teheran has taken a new tact and declared her a murderer in order to re-sentence her to a death by hanging.

The Iran Policy Committee group hosted a press conference in Washington D.C. Thursday to announce that the Mujahedeen Khalq (MEK), an Iranian resistance group, presented evidence that the Iranian regime has been secretly developing a nuclear enrichment site in Qazvin since 2005, According to the MEK the facility is about 85% complete and currently non operational. It is not known whether or not centrifuges have been installed at the facilities. A centrifuge is the key component used to enrich Uranium to either reactor fuel or weapons grade.

Well, let’s see if “Jimmy Carter II” can screw up this Iranian hostage situation as bad as Jimmy Carter I did his.

Sorry, but I’d still like to know a little more about these “hikers” before I decide to give a damn about them.

I also agree with you? Now what in your right mind would want you to "HIKE" in that region in the first place. I'm sure the scenery isn't that spectacular!

There have been too many examples of leftist “journalists,” “diplomats” and “tourists” in recent years, in places like Colombia, Peru and Iraq who get themselves “kidnapped” by guerrillas and handed back for princely ransoms and concessions for me to assume these people are not in cahoots with the Iranians.

Does anyone remember this incident back in 2000 when Gaddafi’s Libya managed to get a bunch of their citizens somehow captured by the Islamist Abu Sayyaf guerrillas in far off Philippines and paid a princely sum for their return? Did anyone besides me smell something funny about that?

Susanne Osthoff, the German archaeologist kidnapped in Iraq in 2005. Who was later released for ransom while concealing the ransom money paid for her safe return. I admit that incident has crossed my mind in regards to this trio.

Until something develops to prove otherwise it would be safe to blame the hikers for their own lack of good judgment.
