Stop stealing my retread ZOT!
SmallGovTimes ^ | 9/8/10 | John Jay Myers

Originally the message of the Tea Party seemed clear “Less taxes and spending”. Simple enough, Right? Somehow they have gotten distracted. Very, very distracted. I know that all Tea Parties and their participants are different, so it is not fair for me to throw them all under the bus.

So for those who are distracted; let me attempt to recapture your attention.

You wake up in the middle of the night to the sound of breaking glass, when you stumble out of your bed into the living room you find a man standing there with your TV in his arms. Of course your first reaction is to exclaim loudly and with all of your energy “Should gays be allowed to marry?” Wait, I am sorry, no you don’t, you scream “Should they build a Mosque in New York City?”, no wait, you say “What’s your stance on abortion?”

Of course not you scream “Stop stealing my stuff!”...

My point to this is simple, if 80% of the people in America believe that our government is corrupt, what is the point of dividing ourselves? As long as you are preoccupied with these other topics, you wont have time to focus on the real issues. You can argue about gay marriage, abortion and other religions, after we get these people out of office so they will “Stop stealing our stuff!”

"Wrong again. We should repeal the 16th amendment and abolish the income tax, social security and medicare."

I'm all for it as well as doing away with OSHA and FEMA and the EPA, the Dept of Education, and on and on...

But I can't see that happening unless we actually get down to a civil war. (Which I fear is where we are headed.)

“Yep that is why I think the government should change the tax code and remove marriage consideration and the exemption for churches.”

Which would be a complete repudiation of the Judeo-Christian roots of this nation, as well as an abdication of one of the few legitimate purposes of government: To protect society by protecting the traditional family unit.

Stealth leftidiocy covered in conservative clothing. Good thing for you this isn’t my house. I’d have zotted you by now.

Of course, I defer to Jim Robinson on that score.

So then Social engineering is OK as long as you agree with it?

Not so succinct really. It's a skit and falls short of what's necessary.

Reagan won with what he called the three legged stool of conservative principles. He led with economic strength, but put together a coalition of people that believed in strong moral principles as well.

You can't beat these lib socialists without a full arsenal.

No, very limited social engineering is OK if necessary to preserve a civilization.

It’s the same reason the state is justified in enforcing laws against counterfeiting money and treason, among others.

Government by definition includes social engineering. It must be limited, for like fire, it is a fearful master. But it does have legitimate areas of domain.

Your argument is similar to a school’s zero tolerance policy: utterly lacking in common sense based on a hyperbolic view of a valid core value. IOW, lefist pap disguised as conservatism.

Counterfeiting and treason are not "Social Issues"...

Actually my argument is the very definition of a Constitutionalists and a Conservative. The Constitution is the 2nd of our founding documents and reaffirms the unalienable rights. (Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness)

Nowhere in the Constitution or any of the founding documents is there a clause dealing with marriage wherein the government should use monetary consideration to promote it.

Your type thinking is what gets us into the mess we are in. The Constitution is not to be interpreted to promote your social agenda just the same as it is not to be interpreted to promote the gay movement's social agenda.

And when you claim it is YOU open the door that allows the left to dismantle Society by way of Government mandate.

The federal government is supposed to be a vehicle to protect the rights of the citizens and to deal with those things they are designated to do via the Constitution. And that is it!

More like 40% that pay no federal income tax. No single issue is going to restore our Republic, but is it OK if the TEA party is the “Taxed Enough Already” group, while the NRA does the RTKBA thing, and while the National Right to Life is the anti-abortion group?

Or does the TEA party have to be all things to all (conservative) people at all times?

The "Tea Party" has never meant "Taxed Enough Already", that is merely a slogan that some put on signs at Tea Party events. The Tea Party Movement is much larger, and more inclusive, than a group of anti-tax protesters. In a real sense the Tea Party is one side of the pervasive "cultural war". Although difficult to define, the Tea Party movement clearly embraces the notions of traditional values and individual freedom as opposed to modern "secular" values and statism.

The Tea Party does not have to be "all things to all (conservative) people at all times" but it will remain a coalition of conservative thinking people many who will emphasize different conservative issues.

BTW, at least 47% of American households pay no federal income tax.

The Tea Party movement actually "Started" over government spending...

but it has grown and now includes taxes and government intrusion into individual freedoms, abortion etc.

Not at all. I just assumed it was a retread because of the (altered) title of the thread.
