I think he didn’t want to preside over what he sees Chicago turning into. Could be Detroit on steroids. Can’t stop the murders, and the whole state is about broke.

And the word is that losing out on the Olympic games took a lot out of him. So he figures he’s got nothing left to live for, politically speaking.

Daley was a great mayor, and he made Chicago a great city. I did not like his support for democrats. But other than that Chicago is a better place now than when he started. And its a better city than almost any other American city of size. The only problem is the weather and even Daley can't fix that.
