Here is a video report that includes University of Virginia Political Science Professor Dr. Larry Sabato saying that this year has been “mischaracterized as an anti-incumbent year.” Instead, he said, “It’s an anti-Democrat year.”

Sabato is predicting right now that the GOP will gain 47-seats in the House to retake control.

He was predicting GOP takes 7 seats in Senate. Is that enough to retake the Senate?

We’ve done a pretty good job of taking out the worst Republican incumbents in the primaries.

It would be nice to get it all done in one swell foop (oh, bugger)* but we can’t do that short of open warfare.

*ancient “legitimate theater” reference.

I fear that if talking heads keep talking like this, anything less than completely obliterating the Dems will be viewed as a failure.

It would still be 52-48 D. However, the presence of Blue Dogs and others with a sense of self-preservation on the D side should help put the brakes on the ObamaNation, and we can try for pushing back the other way after 2012.

Since democracy is just another form of collectivism that headline really gives me a smile.

House is more important than the Senate this time around. Redistricting.

Well, yes and no. As for being an 'antidemocrat' year, Murkowski, Bennett and a few others might disagree. But then again, the gop incumbents who are being purged are the liberal rino wing, so it may best be characterized as an anti-liberal year.

Sadly Sabato doesn't have the balls to risk his appearances on MSM by telling that inconvenient truth.

Wasn't it Red Skelton (bless his soul) who said that first?

Yeah, Sabato has been at it a long time and is pretty objective. He is trustworthy, imo, although nobody is perfect.

Remember back in ‘94 all the pundits were saying ‘Pubs
would not take the House/Senate - figured would only gain 25
seats, maybe 30 at most

Based on amount of anger was hearing about Clinton and ‘Rats made my own guesstimate -

45+ seats House, 7+ Senate

Actual was 55 House, 8 Senate

What am hearing now dwarfs ‘94 ........

redistricting is done by the States, not the House. If you want the most important races for redistricting, check your local State's websites to see who does it and how it's done. It varies by State.

Thanks. I always thought that was the case but heard Frank Luntz say that if Republicans wanted a House majority, it had to happen in 2010 because of redistricting. I thought he meant the House Dems would control the process. What was he talking about?

I think we need 10 in the Senate, but I could be wrong.

I heard Peter O'Toole relate the story, I think back when one still called The Tonight Show "Carson", about another actor of yore with whom O'Toole had worked. This other actor had, on stage in Shakespeare's Macbeth, spoken the lines

"All my pretty chickens, and their Dam,
In one fell swoop?"

--mispronounced as indicated, and followed up (again, live on stage!) with "Oh, bugger."
