Economic morons! Thats why you cut taxes across the board and let Americans decide where to allocate their funds and not just target specific industries or groups. But DemRats are experts at creating divisions and schisms among the ranks.

I thought this thread was going to be about the teachers' unions bailout.

Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

Republicans should pick this issue up, and the takeover of the automotive industry, and beat the democrats to death with it. Easier to understand and much harder for demos to defend than health care or security.

Urban ghettos are obviously the preferred land use pattern.

If so, Willie Green is in on it. Even though it's rusty, I'm proud it's still on the road. HD is pretty handy. I keep telling him to think like a Cuban under embargo.

Automobiles are most recycled items on earth.

Anyone with even the most minimal real world experience knows that. Such insights are alien however to the clueless and incompetent democrat party.

Cash for Clunkers crushed the poor with cheap used cars much too expensive now for many.

Obama is an enviro leftist whack job that is clueless. Taking cars off the shelf and destroying them, then giving thousands to supplant an unaffordable payment is whack.

...wife and I were utterly taken aback by the prices so I concur with your daughter’s dilemma.

Agreed. We need a good used truck, and the prices are astronomical. My oldest grandchild is looking for a used car to take to college, and he hasn't found anything yet, either.

A friend of mine owns used car lots, as I was taking mine in for service, I noticed lots had very few cars. I dropped in to ask why, he said, nothing is coming to auction that is saleable.

I have seen this myself. As a bank rep for a subprime lender, we specialize in the under 10000 dollar vehicle market. So my tax dollars went to melt down our inventory. Brilliant. Almost as great as when the government stole my income to give it to our competition. I work for a privately funded bank. We saw the credit markets ready to implode and backed off. Our competition carried on business as usual and when they got their collective male anatomy stuck in a slamming door, the government just took my income and gave it to the competition. Of course they were “Too big to fail”. State controlled economies suck.

It wasn’t intended to help the poor. It was intended to help GM and Chrysler and more important, to help their labor unions.

My daughter wants to buy her first car (pre-owned) and is discouraged by the prices.

My wife and I just bought two used cars well below "blue book" pricing.

There are 240 million cars on the road. The cash for clunkers program sold 700000. That's .3% of the total. It has had no effect on the price of used cars. The real culprit is that new car buying is way down. People are buying used cars to avoid locking in on a 5 year loan for $400/month.

Not in Austin, TX. The fools are still tooling around with their signs of abject ignorance. These are the people who ought to be laid off first.

“My marxist/dim/wacko/luddite neighbor has taken to riding a bicycle everywhere. That old guy looks so silly in the helmet and pads.”

This sort of “problem”, fortunately, tends to correct itself...the good news is, one less person to pay Social Security to.

I know a guy in Atlanta (possibly the most pedestrian/bicycle unfriendly city on Earth) who almost lost an arm when he was hit by a truck mirror while riding.

I couldn’t get that lucky. He will probably be like Jimmy Carter, live to be very old and causing endless grief and trouble with no real consequences.
