The Kenyan Clown spontaneously recited, in perfect Arabic, the shahada to Nicholas Kristof of the New York Times.

And I can recite the words to the Pabst Blue Ribbon jingle but that does not make me a beer drinker. People remember things they heard as a kid. I agree with the article that he's not a Muslim, he's a typical modern lefty moralist.

He took mengaji classes in Indonesia in which devout muslim students learn to recite the Koran in Arabic.

He recites the Shahada ("There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is his Messenger") to Kristof in perfect Arabic and says the evening call to prayer is one of the prettiest sounds on earth at sundown.

That's little more than the PBR jingle!

But I’m pretty sure he couldn’t get more than 1 sentence through the Preamble of the Constitution.

No one in Congress, I’m willing to bet, can recite the whole preamble.

The Shahada is a declaration of Muslim belief. It means more to a Muslim to recite it than to recite the Apostle's Creed. Reciting it literally makes a person a Muslim. It's like baptizing yourself.

I have never known a non-Christian to mindlessly recite the Lord’s prayer and call it the most beautiful thing they had ever heard in the world, and then claim that they had no Christian faith.
