Geithner and his ilk trot out to one of the immense malls around DC, look at all the activity and people pouring money out like water, and think “this is much more activity than a couple of years ago”. They may even lower themselves to ride through a burb or two and notice how few "for sale" signs there are these days. Then, they tell everyone that things are better. Naturally things are better for the mass of new employees in government and the horde of existing overpaid federal employees. Things have never been better for the government “servants” from the president who spends more time on vacation than at work, thru the czars who no one even keeps track of to see if they show up for work, right on down to the lowest GSzero that still gets three weeks paid vacation and earnings sure to be above the median in the private sector.

So, yeah, things are a lot better from his point of view and he honestly doesn't care about the great “flyover” part of the country. That's all just some numbers on his screen or printout. The real world for Geithner and everyone else in this administration is the 75 mile radius around the senate office building. Well, not everyone, some in the House go home and worry about the 25 mile radius around the capitol in their home state as well.
