Australian Federal Election Results – Live Blog

The Results of the Australian Federal Election are starting to be counted now that the booths have closed. I will be live blogging the coverage of that count during the next 7 hours. The result of this election is delicately poised on a knifes edge, even though the incumbent Labor Government had a comfortable margin. This looks like being a cliff hanger, and if the Conservative side of politics does win, it could be an indicator that people have had enough of Big Government.

Rudd suffers early swing against him

Former prime minister Kevin Rudd is facing a swing against him of over nine per cent, in early counting in his Brisbane seat of Griffith.

But his 44 per cent of the primary vote was greeted with spontaneous applause and shouts of "he's won it" by about 50 supporters at the Easts Leagues Club in Coorparoo.

With 15 per cent of the vote counted, Mr Rudd had a notional 62 per cent of the two-party preferred vote.

I have the utmost respect for John Howard. Does he endorse or support anyone?
