I don’t think it’s a Constitutional, legal free speech / religion / expression issue. If it’s private property which they own and they are following all the zoning, permits etc...they CAN build it.

However.

The questions is whether they SHOULD build it. It’s high time the so-called “moderate” muslims stood up and said “we understand how you feel and we’ll choose to respect your pain and anguish”.

It should not be a case of being forced to not build it. It should be a case of them showing the wisdom and maturity to choose not to build it.

I think moderate muslims are even more despicable and have far less influence than American moderate independents, who also stand for nothing.

Exactly. We can't be hypocrites about the rule of law. If New York wants to stop it, they need to change the zoning.

One might also entertain thoughts about the Kehlo decision the left celebrated. Perhaps a pork BBQ joint on the site would generate more tax revenue.

They would have to be understanding and tolerant of someone else’s beliefs in order to restrain themselves.

“The questions is whether they SHOULD build it.”

Precisely: anybody can do what he or she wants with his or her property, as long as it doesn’t disturb the neighbors’ “right of quiet enjoyment” of their property. Should they? Only if they are either completely tone-deaf or simply don’t care what the infidel thinks.

Unfortunately, either or both appear(s) to be the case.

Keep the memories long and the powder dry.
