A Resource for Every Organizer & Anyone Contemplating Action in Their Community
NEA recommends the following Saul Alinsky books to those members of our Association who are involved in grassroots organizing, especially Association Representatives (ARs) also known as building reps or shop stewards and leaders at local affiliates.
Saul Alinsky is widely recognized as the father of, and pre-imminent expert in, grassroots organizing, which is why we recommend that ARs and local leaders become familiar with his theories & materials.
Alinskys writings have been called the mothers milk of the left, however in an ironic homage, the conservative right has borrowed a page or two from the Alinsky playbook. Tea Party leader and self-described conservative radical Michael Patrick Leahy, for example, has authored a book based on Alinskys teachings: Rules for Conservative Radicals.
We hope that ARs and local leaders of all political stripes will discern from Alinskys books grassroots organizing strategies that will best help us bring our members together around the common goal of improving public education.

NEA= COMMIE NEA MEMBER = Commie Party Member
COMMIE PARTY MEMBER = TARGET PRACTICE
The article mentions “the end justifies the means”, and the author grudgingly accepts the concept that once in a while you might need to do something unethical if you are using Alinsky. Author mentions the dedication to Reville, sure enough, but not the dedication to Rules. Gee, why?
Alinsky set out a procedure for nonviolent takeovers and under-the-radar social change. The NEA is not wrong in citing him as an example of how to effect radical change.
Now that conservatives are the radicals, it makes sense for anyone wishing social or political change to understand Saul Alinskys life work, even though you may revile it. At the least you can see when someone else is using Rules against you.
Narrow, low-impact programs should be eliminated:
# Academies for American History and Civics. This program, which provides workshops for teachers of American history, is not coordinated with other professional development programs within the Department of Education and is not based on the needs of states and localities.
# We the People. This program is an earmark grant to the Center for Civic Education to instruct a small number of students on the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.
Excellence in Economic Education. This is a small grant program designed to promote economic and financial literacy among K-12 students.

And people wonder why our public education system is so frakin’ screwed up...progressive historical revisionism at its best courtesy of the idiot-ridden NEA. =.=
Accurate take on Alinsky.
Like Sun Tzu, know your enemy.
Know your enemy.
Read the book and understand it to counter their methods.
The NEA has no place using this a text book.
Using young adults and teens for manipulation is just evil.
Not out of character, but evil.
The NEA must go!!!!
The NEA is espousing nothing more than leftist nonsense. I feel sorry for this country.
The NEA helps me know how to vote. Or confirms it anyway. What a piece of crap union this is.
I have but struggled big time with the fact that I was putting money in the hands of these people.
Well said - which is why I read the book.
