I’ll be a monkey’s uncle if Soebarkah (Barry) didn’t use Indonesian citizenship to get preferred status at Columbia.
Yeah, because there are so many more preferential programs at American universities for Indonesian citizens than there are for black Amercan students.


But scholarships? 1969 was a time Universities wanted to show how international they were with lots and lots of international students.

But you are right.

Half Africans could also get preferences, and scholarships. And certainly black Americans too.

Wasn’t there still a draft in ‘69? Wouldn’t being an Indonesian student have saved him from a draft? Seems to me that I read there was something odd about his draft registration.
