Ok, you are welcome to your opinion and I am welcome to mine. I still think it is a good idea in that it gives kids time to grow up and learn some personal responsibility before they go out to make their way in the world.

At least I was offering a concrete idea that might eliminate some of the government dependance that is ruining our society and our country. In your world, we would keep churning out rapping, cursing, society-blaming 18 year olds and expect them to turn into responsible adults.

Our country required military service for most of our history and it was responsible for turning many punks into real men. I said that there should be "some kind of required service after high school". That doesn't mean that every kid would be sent to the front against his will.

In my opinion, your "idea" borders on marxism, but again that's just my opinion.

That's a PARENT'S job, not the job of the military. So tell me, do you advocate sending the PARENT'S of these "punks" as you call them into the military too? Obviously they've failed their jobs as Parents and need some help straightening out their lives too. Hell, with that change I might just be all for your idea - it'll fix two problems then.

There's a reason we have a volunteer military rather than forced service. What you're advocating is FORCED service - gee, much the same as Obama advocates in his "civilian" army that mirrors the military. IMO You're treading on dangerous ground here.

So tell me, who decides which "punks" as you call them should go to the front line and which should not? Who decides? You? Some Government Panel?
