Big news this morning that the financial reform bill exempts the SEC from transparency. Perhaps even bigger news is that the corrupt DOJ is also exempt. The bottom line, no transparency at either agency. Is this how we will fund the creeping lawlessness at the DOJ? Mary Shapiro, SEC head, and Eric Holder are free to ignore whistleblowers again, and hide whatever needs to be hidden.

@Dogbert41, yes and amazing that they didn’t really try to hide it. It’s on page 24, but I don’t think anyone talked about it before the bill was passed.

“Transparency” redefined.

I can see a reason for FOIA exemption. Just think of the value of a company that could be erased if someone could FOIA the fact that the SEC was doing an investigation of a company, even when the investigation turns up nothing.

But FOIA already has rules for this kind of thing. DAs and police already can’t release info about current investigations. So there must be an ulterior motive involved here.
