8am to 3pm is more than enough time for kids to learn if they want to learn and teachers want to teach.

So true. Last year my daughter's school started at 7:50 and by lunch, 11:30, she had finished all of her main courses, maintaining a 95 plus overall average. After lunch was mostly fluff and band, which I didn't call fluff because she's a very talented oboe player, made Jr high all county in 5th grade. I think kids need good teachers and supportive parents, and more time in school is not going to change the teacher or the parent. And we actually like having her home and family time! She likes volleyball and softball and that's after school, not even a school sport at her age so extra school would leave no time for this. Unfortunately, there are parents that would love to have the school watch there kids 24/7 and that's sad. We also enjoy summer vacation, probably learns more at home in the summer because we actually take time to learn local history, explore science from an un-algore perspective and volunteer in the community.
