BTW...an interesting side note. The other day the subject of Mexican Cartel illegal aliens growing plantations on our public lands came up here on FR. I had no less than 4 people call me a liar...that it just doesn’t happen....they ignored the photos, the YEARS of reports on this. They also took me to task that where I live isn’t the Pacific NW. Down right amazing, isn’t it? There’s no winning this battle when good republicans refuse to admit there’s a problem.

Federal officials believe as much as 80 percent of the marijuana on public land is grown by Mexican drug cartels that have turned to places like Point Reyes National Seashore, Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Park and Whiskeytown National Recreation Area in this era of tightened border security; growing the drug here is far easier than smuggling it in. The plants found in Point Reyes last week were valued at around $50 million, Dell’Osso said.

The federal Office of National Drug Control policy estimates that growing 1 acre of marijuana damages 10 acres of land.

how does a state that elects to legalize weed vote down a gay marriage prop? Bizarre state, that California..

It only seems bizarre because our traditional groupings of "conservative" and "liberal" are very arbitrary, and actually lump together some polar opposite ideas. For example, on the conservative side, we put "small, limited government" and "federal war on drugs" into the conservative bucket together, even though they are antithetical. In the case of California, a lot of the traditional left-wing voting block, i.e. blacks and hispanics, are typically anti-gay. So, they'll vote for the "liberal" idea of drug legalization, but against gay marriage. In fact, it is thought that the election of Obama in 2008 actually caused the downfall of gay marriage because it got so many blacks and hhispanics motivated to vote that they came out in good numbers. If they hadn't, the whte liberals in the state probably would have been the biggest voting block, and Prop 8 would have failed.
