Included a link ... and that fact that the farm is leased.
Leasing is more common than running it yourself. I have a lease on a local 100 acre farm (Upstate NY) that was written up in 1840. Most farms in my Town (Webster) are leased. The farmer usually just keeps a small part for his “playing”. These folks never quit.
Cool find!!
I am curious what their expenses are, and other income from trucking, etc.
These folks hardly seem impoverished.

I'd like to see the USDA records, Ms. Sherrod's files/notes from that day to demonstrate that this couple is actually the one she refers to in her NAACP speech, and also, let's have a look at the other white farmers she was required to assist through her career, how did they fare, eh?
She said she finally figured out why (when she was young) this stinking little Town east of us had huge churches, huge court house, specialty shops etc....."Rich Farmers".
I knew the Town...looked around my Town...yup...the Farmers had all the money at one time. They certainly made my Town.
Don't think they're into trucking...The affair was for the St Christopher Fund.

Eloise Spooner: We’ve got four semis and my husband Roger is driving a Peterbilt with our sons, David and Dennis, the twins, and our grandson Jake ... they’re all hauling fertilizer today to different farms. We haul for a big company up in Colquitt, Ga., and Donaldsonville, Ga. So I’ll be doing the interview.
“let’s have a look at the other white farmers she was required to assist through her career, how did they fare, eh?”
bump!
Okay....Now stuff is coming out....
How long has this trucking business been going on??

Eloise, his wife of 62 years, 17 days before his official discharge. He still carries his discharge papers in his wallet.
After leaving the Navy as a motor machinist, 2nd class, Spooner went into farming and truck driving. He still makes day trips in his 1999 Peterbilt semi.
His experience brings tears to your eyes. I’m glad he’s going to see the memorial.
