Update 2:30 pm EDT: Original leak on the pipe has been sealed, but there are two major leaks on the stack now. One is at the bottom of the new "cap" and the other is on both sides of the BOP just underneath the flex joint. Lots of hydrates above the leaks.

Update 1:00 pm EDT: Chuck Watson has an update on the potential for a tropical storm, added to the end of this post.

Has any one else read or heard that a few miles from where the leak is, there is a riff around mile long on the sea bead that is leaking methane and oil and this is the reason the pressure is not where it should be on the capped well?

Mention of tropical storm: The WSJ said yesterday, I believe, the last tropical storm did a lot to CLEAN OUT the Louisiana marshes.

If there is a storm with it capped, there will be no effect on the sea floor now.

The well is capped the seepage 2 miles away is unrelated, whatever the bubbles are the government is leaving the cap closed for now.

I don’t trust the Oil Drum postings anymore.

Yes, it's been mentioned in the news and on threads.

From all the best sources I and others have gathered, including info at THE OIL DRUM, one has nothing to do with the other.

It is likely the other 'leak' was doing so before the BP WELLRIG EXPLOSION.

Nope, bogus info. Watched the Admiral (retired) in charge of the government side today on C-Span. He admitted it was doubtful that the two were connected. It is a fact that there are other gas and oil seaps in the Gulf of Mexico.

Obozo will try to use any method to to kill and nationalize the oil industry. Noticed tonight that one of the hollywood crowd had suggested that the oil industry be nationalized. I saw Maxine Waters say the same thing. It is a Lefties "wet dream" to destroy the oil industry and capitalism. Then make us all dependent serfs out on the plantation. And/Or kill any who oppose their dictatorship.

Let's see here you drill down what 18,000 feet and then loose the casing in the well and it has no effect in the sea floor with what was it originally 10,000 psi of pressure coming up out of the casing? Naw it won't have any effect on any thing else.

In 1980 an oil drilling rig accidently drilled into the roof of an active salt mine, at a point underneath a lake. Watch this video of it. It's an interesting display of the power of natural forces

The next picture is a large crater that is a result of a Soviet gas exploration accident in the 1950’s. It was created when a Soviet drilling rig was drilling for natural gas fell into an underground cavern resulting in a crater which today measures roughly 60 meters in diameter and 20 meters deep. The huge crater was set alight shortly after being discovered and has been burning ever since. The smell of burning sulfur can be detected from a distance and becomes quite strong as you near the hot edge of the crater.

I believe NOTHING coming from the Obozo administration. Generally I have great respect for our servicemen, none for the average POL. I also have great respect for the Oily's. Engineers and operators.

Link to BP's "plan" Took a little more time to download than solid text of 53 pgs, probably due to a graphic in it? Sec 7 is the fun one. Sects 12 and 13 may answer some questions about what happens to mud, tailings, etc. There's a chart there for that. This is a "public" version and some stuff is not in it, like (I think) their assessment of the geology of the area into which they were drilling. Is it possible to get the complete plan, as opposed to the PUBLIC INFORMATION version?

concern about environmental items...some graphics of water depth....
