The Obama administration wants the well reopened so they can measure the flow for liability purposes. Before oil collection can take place, they would have to let the well run into the Gulf for 3 days.

BP refused and next the government issued this news leak, almost certainly from Thad Allen. He refused to divulge the nature of the seep.

On teh radio they now are saying BP and teh government are on teh same page. I think BP won this round, for now.

It ought to be very controversial to reopen that flow for 3 days unless absolutely necessary.

Anonymous Official Expresses Concern about Seeps and Pressure and Open Thread
Why does an anonymous official have a concern about an open thread?

Once the oil flow is stopped, the only remaining news will be about the incompetence of the Obama administration in cleaning up the spill. That will never stand. The oil must keep flowing!

This is the time to be taking out as much oil as possible out of the well. This would take the pressure off the well casing and make the best of the situation with oil now able to be piped up from the well head.

It’s just my gut feeling, but something is horribly wrong with the whole BP oil spill coverage and story line.
I smell really big dead fish here!
At first there where 3 well leaks, then one is capped, and then we see pic of the seconds one, but no accounting of the third one.
No mention of the escaping methane gases. no pics of the overall gulf.
BP is not to be trusted, but The Usurper and CommieCrate Criminals are even less trustworthy. IMHO

Is it not possible that this well having flowed for nearly 3 months simply doesn’t have as much pressure in it as it did when this first started?

AOL has an article...

a seep and possible methane were found near the busted oil well.
The concern all along - since pressure readings on the cap weren’t as high as expected - was a leak elsewhere in the wellbore, meaning the cap may have to be reopened to prevent the environmental disaster from becoming even worse and harder to fix.
Scientists still aren’t sure whether the pressure readings mean a leak elsewhere in the well bore, possibly deep down in bedrock, which could make the seabed unstable. Oil would be have to be released into the water to relieve pressure ...
we must ensure no irreversible damage is done which could cause uncontrolled leakage from numerous points on the sea floor...
