I suppose...Although if you were one of those Patriots who died a slow and miserable death on the British prison ships in New York harbor it was pretty horrible...or if you were a Tory supporter of King George driven out of your home in the middle of winter and looking at thousand mile march to Canada...was equally horrible.

Yes, in general both British and American regular armies were gentlemen in conduct and fought most of their battles outside cities to keep civilian deaths to a minimum.
