Very true. Very true.

We currently have a gray diabetic cat (12 years plus).

He's a trooper, lets us take a blood sample and never fights the insulin injection.

He's a real lover boy.

I'm sure he knows he'd be dead in a field if we had not come along (we found him in a field as a kitten, took him in at the first snow).

The mice in our field have a different picture of ‘Oslo,’ though - (real name: His Royal Highness, Dr. Oslo Spincheterhousen, MD., The Crowned Prince of Overlookastan).

Special needs kitty's can be very rewarding.

I found out that mine was only after I got him from the pound. His digestive tract doesn't work right, so he's had a number of costly trips to the hospital to get him sorted out. We've got it under control now, though.

He's a good little guy, and his company is worth all of the headache.

Two little darlings! Amen to their finding loving homes soon. God bless you, JustaDumbBlond.

Here's my special needs kitty...he has one leg missing. If I were closer I would take them. It's despicable that this has happened to them. Please keep us posted on their placement.

Thanks for the ping(s) SA. I don’t say that often enough but really appreciate them and you!

I am trying to reach out more specifically to regional boards and other people I know. I will wait a few days to see if someone more local pops up (that includes anyone answering this thread).

Thanks to JADB for wanting them. I don’t know that my aunt can do too much as far as special arrangements for going far away (she is a nurse to my uncle’s pediatrician practice and they are often on call), but that would be up to her or her assistant. If we can’t find something closer rather soon, maybe that can be set up.

I don’t know. They’re just assuming someone chopped them off maliciously.

In any case, someone didn’t want to deal with them as they are and abandoned them there (typical peril of having a farm).

Don't worry ... my offer will remain open as long as necessary. I'm still praying that the right home is found, even if it is not mine.

Look at them...the grey kitty’s tail is up and appears to be slightly leaning into the hand. In kitty body language, this is a cat who feels pretty comfortable with this person and wants them to know it.

The other one is described as very loving.

Those are all good signs that these cats can be saved and still have a pretty good life in spite of what was done to them.

Since we have been discussing disabled pets - I bring to your attention a new thread on FR about George, a wheel-chair bunny, who was kidnapped by a bear. Click here

My daughter had a pet rabbit named Charmin, who followed her around our yard like a little dog & played hide & seek with her.

Cats are amazing. My Schmeckel Kitty developed a bad colon, so it was removed, necessitating a daily laxative. Then he got hit by a car and his right rear leg was crushed, plus he got a herniated diaphragm. They put his gizzards back and amputated his leg. He stumped along with the best of them. He finally developed kidney failure, and after fighting that for six months I finally had to put him down. Cried for three days. He remained the sweetest, most forgiving kitty throughout. Kitties like that are rare and wonderful.

Hello - I finally got your messages. Thank you! That’s great, but since my aunt is actually the 1 with the cats, and I think she would be too busy to handle special arrangements typical of long-distance (but maybe her farm assistant wouldn’t mind), I am waiting to see if any closer people might want to take them. I did get word of a Pittsburgh-area cat person who might help. I need to call my aunt about what’s happened so far and see what she wants to do.

While my aunt can’t wait forever, there’s no deadly short time limit as in a shelter. So between needing to contact her (also hard because of her husband and her medical practice) and how much effort she can handle, and the time we likely have, I’m thinking we can give it about a week and see if we have more local contacts. I also put out an e-mail to people I know who might be interested or would have contacts in the area.

If not closer, we’ll give it a try. Although if I can contact my aunt, she may want to talk to Angel’s Gate to see right away. In any case I might personally run through the contacts and get more info about how it would be handled.

Again, thank you for the info and help!
