If they where never really legally married, then, they could not have been divorced, got to be legally married to get a legal divorce.
Perhaps, Stanley found out that Obama SR had other wives in another country and wanted out of the marriage.
Perhaps her parents arranged them to be married for some nefarious reasons, and Stanley reluctantly went along with it.

Obviously. Yet some birthers fail to realize this, claiming that while there is proof of the divorce, there's no proof of a marriage. I have yet to hear a plausible reason why a couple who isn't married would bother going through the hasstle, pain and expense of a divorce.
