This isnt intended as a criticism of Chris Matthews or his statement about Sarah Palin; in fact, hes exactly correct in this analysis. If Palin decides to run for President and scores big in Iowa, survives in New Hampshire, and can go big in South Carolina, she will have a strong lead for the Republican nomination. Actually, thats not exactly news, since thats also the strategy for Mike Huckabee and Tim Pawlenty (who is spending three days in Iowa), and anyone else seeking the Republican nomination. Matthews is also not wrong about what will happen if Palin manages to do it (emphasis mine, courtesy of Greg Hengler):

Matthews is desperate and scared, and it shows.
She will only win the primary if she shows that she has what it takes.
No one is going to hand Palin the nomination, she is going to have to earn it like anyone else.
Sounds like a threat to me, Chrissy-poo.
However, she just refuses to go down, and is fighting back rather than rolling over. They're not used to that, particularly when they've fired all their ammunition.
Palin wins and little crissys head will explode. Its a toofer.
Pffffftt. They'll try. ;)
The MSM thinks they’re bigger and badder than they really are. There aren’t any Uncle Walters or any other “star studded” anchorcommies with enough power to push Sarah out of the way. Grassroots have deeper roots this time around than ever.
Bring it.
You’re right, and we can debate all day long as to whether she will or not, only time will tell. But Matthew’s comment is ludicrous - it’s not as if they haven’t tried! He’s just hoping there will be more Couric type interviews that provide ammunition for the bloviators like himself, but he’s worried and it shows.
And if anyone has noticed, there have been weekly, if not daily gaffes by Joe Bite-Me Biden, and our Dear Leader has stepped in it on numerous occasions, but when is the last time Sarah Palin has been caught in a misstatement or gaffe? She may be getting some assistance, but she’s also picking her own venues and putting her message out her way, rather than playing defense to a hostile press. If she chooses to run she will have a whole different way of dealing with the media than the McCain Campaign forced her into.
I personally think he is correct. If they do not destroy her they will do their level best.
What these fools fail to recognize is that there is a new Sheriff in town. It’s called an informed American electorate....
Here we go again, a CommieCrate trying to influence GOP nomination process. Sure he absolutely correct, but this is more a threat than a prediction. He trying to hand the other contenders ammunition with which to shoot her down. That’s because the Corporate Media has been unable to put a dent into her little red wagon, after spending millions of dollars, thousands of man-hours, and hundreds of airtime hours.
Go Sarah Go, and de-RINO the GOP in the process!
NOT A ONE OF THE MAJOR NEWS PUNDITS IS IMPARTIAL ENOUGH TO BE THE MODERATOR FOR THE DEBATES.
What, having a woman who had a pro-bama book slated to be released on January 20th wasn't obvious enough?
Whoever drives the questions of the debate (and possibly forwards the questions to Hillary et al) decides the election.
While the public may like or reject the answers from a conservative on the issues, we CANNOT let the media DEFINE the important issues (you'll see more on global warming and less on the problems caused by illegal immigration for example).
They think their ratings are bad now.. wait till they start in again on that shit.
The MSM are no smarter than the retired hookers and released felons in that group. They'll go down.
no offense chrissy, but the media has tried and failed.....
They still can find a person that would be ‘moderate’ enough for being a moderator. The problem with 2008 was the McCain campaign didn’t seem to try.
...and with the method that a little pi$$ ant state like New Hampshire and then a couple of million in Iowa have such an impact on the nomination process.. McCain wouldn't have had a snowball's chance if our nomination process wasn't so tilted to the favor the east coast (beltway) influence.
He had his worts, but Tim Russert must be rolling over in his grave to see what a piece of Merde his NBC and CNBC has become....
