the Mexicans who lived in the southwest before it was US already were made citizens, so it makes no sense to say they want it back. Those that are coming here now from deep inside mexico have very little connection to the southwest, as any family that was here originally became US citizens when the treaty was made long ago,, this idea they own claim is nonsense.

The anglos who lived in Mexico (Texas) were citizens of Mexico, and many of them did not want the war.
If Santa Anna hadn't slaughtered everybody at Goliad and the Alamo, who knows what would have happened.
Maybe I've been reading too many Elmer Kelton books lately.
