Roughly equivalent to soft point, hollow point is against the Geneva convention, or at least that's what I remember from when I was in.

The Army JAG released a letter certifying modern hollow-points for combat. Since the hollowpoint is a function of manufacturing and isn’t specifically intended to achieve more drastic “terminal effects”, it’s good to go.

The only reason modern hollow-points are used in precision rifles is because the more accurate production process draws the jacket from the rear, not the front. This creates a more precise bullet but leaves the hollow-point.
