Let the Fourth of July always be a reminder that here in this land, for the first time, it was decided that man is born with certain God-given rights; that government is only a convenience created and managed by the people, with no powers of its own except those voluntarily granted to it by the people.

With each passing Fourth of July, we have fewer freedoms than we had the previous holiday the year before.

I remember how dispirited I was at what happened to us during Viet Nam. I remember how dispirited I was during the impotence of Carter’s administration, at the shame of the prolonged Iran hostage crisis, at the oil crisis, at the 17% mortgage rates (if you could get one). He told us, essentially, to get used to it.

However, I also remember the immediate sense of optimism upon Reagan’s election, his unvarnished love of our country, of our Constitution, of family, Faith, and our military, of his unbridled confidence in the American people.

But, we needed Viet Nam, Carter, and the cynicism of the Left in order for us to be worthy of a Reagan.

We will win.

Every generation needs a reminder, now Obama is fulfilling the role Carter and LBJ did.
