Hilary is simply isolating any potential threats to her next and final run for the Presidency.
Actually, she could sit right where she’s at. Among Dems she’s seen as a hawkish (relatively) and at State she keeps involved with our allies while Bill glad hands. She’s not lost Jewish support, either.
She waits until the Obama disaster unfolds fully in November and jumps ship in early 2011. The problem is the Chicago Machine is very powerful with both deep pockets and friends in high places.
Worse for us - we win in Nov., conservatives demand rapid change and we swing too far over letting Obama use it to his advantage - moderating the loony right-wing.
Ideally, we should take sensible actions to retain the House for generations. If we could hold it we can walk the pony back into the barn.
The Commerce Clause and the General Welfare Clauses are ripe for picking. There is strong scholarship refuting the current SCOTUS interpretations and moving us back towards Madison’s original intention.
Just like gun control and the 2nd Amend. the truth is on our side. If we use caution: set spending to grow no faster than inflation + population, lower taxes and reduce onerous regulation on business (especially small businesses), and dismantle departments starting with Education and Energy (simply devolve the funds to the states and make it competitive, then zero growth the budgets to phase them out over time). If we do that we will hold the House for a generation or two and America will be on her feet.
We need to be seen as within the mainstream. Educational liberty is the first place to break the yoke of statism.
Americans vote with their pocketbook first. If we get jobs started again, put money back in people’s pockets and show them that we’re not out to hurt children, women or minorities we’ll hold the House long enough to make a difference.
