U.S. “Funding” Warlords,Taliban In Afghanistan

Your tax dollars are indirectly being used to pay warlords in Afghanistan to protect NATO vehicles–even making its way into the hands of the Taliban.

A new report, Warlord Inc., released by Rep. John F. Tierney, member of the subcommittee on National Security and Foreign Affairs and the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, brings to light a corruptive link between taxpayer dollars and Afghan warlords.

The report shows of how taxpayers have inadvertently funded warlords all across Afghanistan to protect NATO convoys that operate outside of Afghan government and NATO forces. Money is also being used to pay the Taliban not to attack the region.

The information was acquired after letters were sent to the Department of Defense and the eight Host Nation Trucking (HNT) contractors requesting documents and information on the contract. In return, 25,000 pages of documents were obtained by Rep. Tierney and Rep. Jeff Flake. After receiving the information, 31 witnesses were interviewed by both the majority and minority staff in connection with the investigation, which included military personnel, HNT contractors, private security providers, and experts on corruption and politics within Afghanistan.

The troubling report, dealing with the Department of Defense’s 2.1 billion dollar Host Nation Trucking contracts (HNT) — trucks used for the shipment of food and supplies to around 200 American bases in Afghanistan– concluded 7 major findings of corruption:

Nothing new here, Britain did the same in the 1840s and the Afghans played both sides. When the Brits tried to leave these same allies turned on the them and destroyed the army. One man escaped out of twenty six thousand. The lesson learned is these people can not be trusted.
