Seventeen Afghan soldiers attending Lackland Air Force Base's English Language school went AWOL - fleeing into the heart of America - with security access to DOD installations and visas - which have supposedly been revoked if anyone is paying attention. It's frightening to know that this is not uncommon.

These 14 went missing over a period of more than a couple of years. Their military ID was immediately inactivated and I would venture to guess we would find their names on a flight roster back to the middle east if anyone wanted to spend the time.
There is a HUGE cluster in Northern Virginia. There is a restaurant on Jeff Davis highway in Alexandria that gets a great deal of police attention, and, I assume, a lot of attention from the FBI. Ahem. Also, the parking lot of the CVS in Crystal City where the cab drivers who are plotting to overthrow our government congregate. But we do have a number of outstanding kabob joints now, so, according to the Washington Post, it’s all OK.

I’ve eaten at the one in Arlington, and the one in Fairfax, and they are pretty good. The one is Fairfax is so clean you could eat off the floor. They have been around for years.
Someone told them about 20 million Mexicans and they decided that being in illegal in the USA offers a much better life than fighting the taliban.
orrrrr five years from now we will see their pictures all over cable news of the 14 afghan terrorists that got drivers licenses in some liberal state, became sleeper cell leaders and then decided to launch some horrific attack...

I can hear their terrorist leader telling them “Here is the plan for the 15 of you. You agree to be a linquist, you go to to a US Air Force base, agree to be photographed, fingerprinted, id’d, and a file be created on you. Then in months or a year or two you sneak out of the base and become sleeper agents, but don’t use your military ID because that will be flagged as soon as they know you are missing. You will purchase a fake ID and hide in the country until we need you”.
At that point the 15th volunteer spoke up: “Brother and friend in Islam, why would we not just fly to Mexico and then walk across the border into America and then buy fake id’s and hide in the country until we are called upon?”
To which the leader responded after returning from escorting the 15th volunteer outside to take a look at the leader’s brand new AK47: “Do the 14 of you have any other questions?”..........
Sure, there're some bad apples in the bunch, but it's a small enough group I'm sure all the Karzais and Kairs can keep their eyes on them ~ to say nothing of the other top 5 Afghan names.
BTW, beyond the question of kabob, we have a number of tandoors these guys have built to make bread. Back when I could still eat bread I recall it was great stuff.

These ghannies are ALL military leaders.
i was thinking more along the lines that out of the hundreds of afghanis working for us a few dozen get convinced to desert after getting through all the clearence checks. if they wanted to go back home like you suggest i would think they could just tell their superiors they want to go home and they could drop out of whatever military or intelligence school they were attending. foreign nationals from a counrty rife with islamic jihadists going awol on our soil is something that should always be investigated. im not saying they are all hiding somewhere plotting, im just saying that you cant say they arent and i would rather err on the side of caution when it comes to situations like this
