President Barack Obama spoke for the first time ever from the Oval Office last night. The address had several purposes; to explain to the American people what the Obama administration was doing about the BP-caused oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, to shore-up Obamas plummeting approval numbers as related to the crisis in the Gulf, and apparently to use this disaster to press for the potential economy-collapsing Cap & Trade legislation that the President has desired since he was a candidate.
As many as 60,000 barrels of oil per day have gushed out into the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico for eight weeks now, killing marine life, coastal wildlife, and reaping both ecological and economic disaster in those communities along the coast that depend upon summertime tourism.
So, eight weeks in, the President of the United States determines that this crisis is worthy of plopping down in front of the cameras and grabbing a few minutes of prime-time exposure in a speech from the Oval Office.
In his speech Obama talked tough again and while the President did not threaten to kick anyones ass this time, he did toss out some Obama-esque sound bites
