Book Review: “Rush Limbaugh: An Army of One” by Zev Chafets

The good folks at Sentinel were kind enough to send me a copy of the recently published book, Rush Limbaugh: An Army of One, by Zev Chafets. I first started listening to El Rushbo about nine years ago when I was still an undergraduate. So, as you might have guessed, I’m a big fan–a “Dittohead,” as Rush’s fans are known. I tend to agree with 99.9% of what Rush says and I find his delivery and on-air persona hilarious. This is in stark contrast to many including my wife who actually agrees with much of Rush says but finds his delivery obnoxious. I find it endearing.

After reading Chafets’s book, I find Rush an even more endearing and interesting figure. This was not an authorized biography, but the author, Chafets, had unprecedented access to Rush, his family, and others in his life (including his psychologist). Chafets certainly did his research, traveling to Limbaugh’s boyhood home of Cape Girardeau, MO and speaking with hundreds of Rush’s friends and colleagues.

Rush’s problem is he fails to see (or talk about if he does see) out of the box of The Fed and into the nuts and bolts of the current Fed/Banking world government.

He actually is sounding dated and out of touch with the current reality. This isn’t free market USA where we can cut taxes and grow the economy anymore. The US doesn’t MAKE anything anymore, and we already have a de facto world government through the huge banks and the Fed. You can’t defend BP and Bank of America against the liberals because they and the leftist cabals are ONE AND THE SAME.

The only way out of this is to unplug the system and hit reset with the 10th amendment and nulification...and a serious rethinking of The Fed (though admittedly that is a move that would be quite the world upheaval).

Simply redoing Bush and cutting taxes a wee bit and spending a bit less than the libs isn’t going to cut it anymore.

The bus is headed to the Abyss, and even Reagan theory doesn’t apply....after all he didn’t veto spending either....it is a Brave New World...and it is a lot farther along than many choose to believe.

I like Rush’s positions and he can be very funny but I tired of him long, long ago... like back in the 90s.

Rush has contempt for anything that smacks of conspiracy theorizing, which he calls "intellectual laziness."

Limbaugh’s political instincts are 90% plus on target - better than most pundits.

The problem with that thinking is that there is no “conspiracy” to the financial situation at the moment. The global banks are running the show, ultimately, and the US is now tied to the global system.

You cannot talk about how to “get us out of this mess” without considering these things anymore. It renders his analysis moot.

The new financial regulations give even more power to the Fed...the fractional reserve system plus the derivatives markets around the world...and the IMF have brought the US economy into that wad of cords in the closet you can’t untangle.

It isn’t “theory” anymore. It is happening.

The Conservative Movement hasn't done well since Rush became famous. It's not necessarily his fault, but he doesn't seem to have helped either.

You make a good point. I think the Left thinks that if you have a conservative viewpoint, you only have it b/c you listen to Rush or Glenn Beck. Meanwhile, I actually think for myself.
