Y'know... I recently found out that my NRA membership lapsed back in March or so when my magazine stopped showing up.

I'll get around to it... maybe...

When Oregon had the “gun show loophole” ballot measure, McCain ran TV ads here in support of it. I can’t remember who financed the ads, it was some mega rich (dem) dude from outta state.

This reminds me when the NRA gave Tom Daschle an A rating.

NRA sometimes does dumb things. Members just have to hold the fudds’ feet to the flames and keep them in line.

I did. I got a form letter back that completely glossed over all the anti-gun crap McCain has supported like the "gun show loophole", "Saturday Night Special" bans, and "revisiting an Assault Weapons" ban.

JD has no such baggage and believes the Second Amendment means what it says... His voting record holds this up pretty well.

I’m a NRA Life Member and I just sent them an angry letter condemning their intentions of backing McCain.

What jerks!

This is the trouble with the one-issue NRA. They’ll endorse Karl Marx if he seems to be pro 2.

I’ll just cut off their monthly contribution and tell them why.

>>Part of the NRA’s problem is that they hold too strictly a to a one-issue focus: firearms. And on that, Ried has actually been great. Hard to believe but Reid just assisted the NRA in getting millions of dollars of funds to open a brand-new state of the art shooting range outside of Las Vegas.<<

Nevada is a state that is 96% BLM property. Kindly explain to me why we need to use taxpayers dollars to open a shooting range. I’m sure there will be a monitoring system at the new shooting range capable of recording license plates and faces which will then be available for the ATF to browse through.

When I want to go shooting I drive five miles and I have the coolest 3000 yard range all to myself. Take a look at Nevada on a map and you’ll see that we are open country for miles and miles. There is absolutely no need to use tax dollars for a shooting range.

This is literally schizophrenic behavior by NRA. Wasn't McCain-Feingold targeting the NRA? For crying out loud, did we or did we not get letter after letter from the NRAPVF telling us how legislation written by the very man they are now endorsing would de-fang the NRA?

What the hell is wrong with these people?

Thanks for the ping, but no, Joe, the NRA is 100% correct in endorsing John McCain here. Just as they are 100% correct in endorsing Harry Reid in Nevada. As much as I want both of these men to lose their elections, the NRA is right.

The NRA cares about one thing and one thing only - and both of these men lock-step with the NRA about RKBA. The challengers don’t have the voting record these two men do. The NRA will go with a known rather than a hopeful every time. As they should, when they only care about that one thing.

Which, if they were a person would piss me off. One issue people are stupid. But they’re not a person - they’re an organization that exists for one reason, and one reason only.

Part of the NRA's problem is that they hold too strictly a to a one-issue focus: firearms. And on that, Ried has actually been great

And what about Hayworth? Has he been great, so-so, or poor? I dunno, just asking!

Thanks, I just sent them a note telling them that McCain may support gun rights, but he is undermining the country everywhere else.

GI,

Your comments echo what I myself have said here earlier about the NRA and its singular focus. JD Hayworth may be a relative unknown compared to McCain, but what is known about McCain should give the NRA serious pause.

The statement "both of these men lock-step with the NRA about RKBA" is clearly untrue in the case of McCain, whose "gun show loophole closing" bill from several years ago (co-authored with Joe Lieberman) could not possibly be construed to support the RKBA in any way.

This was something the NRA fought fiercely against back then and now is deliberately keeping buried in the hopes that most folks won't remember. Sounds like a very high and risky price to pay for going with "the devil you know versus the devil you don't".

"what about Hayworth?"

I don't know, but those here who do seem to greatly prefer him to McCain.

when my membership expires at the end of the year, I WILL NOT RENEW my membership and I intend to let them know just exactly WHY.

That was my first reaction, then I realized what a left wing/centrist ran NRA would look like,.

Good point, tho’ McCain’s lifetime record on the 2nd is mostly positive. Thanks Joe.

I just finished reading the article in this month’s American Rifleman about the new Clark County Shooting Park outside of Vegas. Good piece, but all the praise heaped on Reid made me want to gag.

Typical NRA - suck up to and support the established anti-gunner rather than the pro-gun challenger.
