Since we became aware the Joe Sestak was offered a position by the administration in exchange for dropping out of the race against Arlen Specter, there have been calls for impeachment. Small at first, but growing in strength in the past week, these calls can threaten to derail the progress that we have been making. In fact, I would submit that impeaching Obama is a terrible idea. (Mind you, this is assuming that we win enough seats in November to even try.)
Impeachment puts Obama on the defense, and that might play to his strengths. I like to keep in mind that Obama is really a community organizer. Hes not a leader, or a uniter, hes an Alinskyite-to the bone. Part of their game is to portray themselves as the victim(s), and their opposition as the oppressor. While Obama doesnt know how to speak without a prompter, go to a foreign country without bowing to someone, or how to handle a national crisis, he does know how to distort, lie, deflect, smear, and pay power politics with people. Those are his strengths, and impeaching him pushes him right back onto them.
Put him on the defensive, and we might just get to see what he is really good at. Race cards will be played. Narratives will be written and rewritten. The MSM will fabricate or selectively cover whatever it takes to defend Obama. Rent-a-mob will be purchased and deployed. The people prompting the impeachment will find themselves on the defensive in short order. Also, dont forget that in politics, its always easier to play to role of the principled defense. Just ask the GOP. Theyve been able to stay on message as a united front (with the exception of some RINOs). For that, theyre polling higher, and are looking to make some significant gains come November.
Putting him under attack will also likely energize his base. Theyre not so active right now. They had to pay Purple People Beaters to show up for Martha Coakley in January. They probably had to pay the People Beaters to show up and scare the stuffing out of a teenager last week. However, threaten his presidency, and the zombies will awaken. That might put us on the defensive literally (not that particularly bothers me, I see it as an eventuality anyway) .
Another reason to avoid impeachment is that it takes us off message and task. No matter what, our agenda should be put forward. Lower taxes, less spending, smaller government, school choice, repealing ObamaCare, and repairing the damage that Obama has caused should be front and center. Impeaching Obama will take time and political capital, both of which are in short supply, and neither can be squandered. The stakes are simply too high. We either stop correcting damage, and getting the country back on track, or we spend time trying to remove a sitting President; a task that has never been accomplished.
The third reason centers on the fact that Obama is failing already. Hes taking heat for the slow reaction time on the oil spill. He is increasing alienating his lapdogs in the media, and theyre starting to notice. All the Easter Eggs that were in ObamaCare are becoming public. He is now a laughing stock overseas, and belligerent nations are taking his presidency as an excuse to become more aggressive. They can say that the economy and jobs are getting better, but Main Street says otherwise, and a few hundred thousand-census workers are about to lose their jobs. Democratic candidates are running against him, and treat him like the plague. In fact, almost every candidate that he has campaigned for has lost. Its not an impressive record. Its going to get worse, and more and more people are noticing. If you impeach him, you actually distract from his own record of failure, making him the victim instead of Jimmy Carter 2.0.
Ive often said that Obama, in and of himself, is irrelevant. Hes only the latest progressive thats trying to destroy the Republic. Clinton, Kerry, or any other Democrat could have won, and wed be still facing the same challenges that we are tackling now. Its the agenda that we need to target, not the man. If we stick with ideas, people will see what a disaster the Obama Presidency is, and will continue to be. Impeach him, and it becomes personal, and he can use his skills to make himself a sympathetic character that is being set upon by those evil Conservatives that dont want a black man to be president.
Dont play into his hands. Instead, lets send him home in January of 2013 as a failure-because he is. Lets also make sure take he takes failed, statist ideas with him as well.
Impeachment without the possibility of 67 votes to convict is just political beating off.
I was gung-ho for impeaching the Sink Emperor, but I didn’t understand the GOP then the way I do now.
“if we to go for impeachment, we better make sure we have the votes and that it will pass, otherwise a failure will give Obama the victory like with Clinton”
Oh contraire! By attempting to impeach Obama on a number of issues that violate the constitution the mainstream media will, for once, have to cover them. This would expose the truth to the naive public and possibly turn the sentiment against this Marxist.
You are correct. The Democrats will find it necessary to manuever 0bama out of the White House. The sooner the better.
Actually I am wathning more than ever. I am no fool. I just can’t take what is going on so I have to escape. I will not go to the movie theater so Redbox has me on frequent renter status. They are putting a machien on my front porch Tuesday to save me time.
I must admit to being torn. My feeling prior to the election was that an Obama win would showcase socialism like never before. Let's have the big fight during this generation, while we still have people who remember freedom. 20 years from now, USA would be Greece and the Teacher's unions, taking to the streets yelling, "I don't CARE if there is no money! I want my goodies!"
In this, I have been correct. We are fighting back, while with McCain there would have been no fight against his incrementalism. Is Obama doing damage? Yes. Can it be fixed? I don't know.
Is it prudent to pull Obama out (assuming a circumstance under which he is actually removed) before the mushy middle has learned that liberalism is destructive? Will the lesson learned be that Obama was a bad President because he was a crook? (a la, liberalism will still work if we find the right person to administer it) Or Obama was a bad President because he pursued destructive, anti-American, liberal policies and surprise, surprise, happened to be a crook.
The first leaves us with a fight still to be fought. The second settles the issue.
I agree, force the dems to do it. They control the congress, that’s the only way he’d get impeached anyway.
Get lost, chump! Pull your crap somewhere else.
I think that you’re pushing that point to the breaking point. Are you assuming that someone is going to talk? This administration has more control over information than any in modern history. No leaks, and they don’t even talk to the media. Who is going to testify truthfully?
Everyone will say that Obama knew nothing of this. They might fire a minion, maybe even Emanuel, but Obama will stay in office.
If you want to impeach, you’d better have ironclad evidence, and you’d better be able to pull it off.
I agree. Better to check him in Congress and get Palin in as president in 2012—unless he is found to have truly been overtly treasonous—than to expel him sooner and give another, slightly more stealth Democrat the office in ‘12.
Impeaching Obama, would be a waste of times. We know the Democrats don’t care if he committed any crimes, so there would not be, under any circumstances, enough votes to convict.
If those who post here on FR are any guide to broader hard-right conservative thinking, then one thing is absolutely clear to me. Hard-right conservatives don't have clue one about how to make their message palatable to the broader American public, so they constantly look for end runs around the electoral process.
Clinton was impeached. Impeachment doesn’t mean he’s out of office, right?
I don’t believe this post. IF anything we’ve learned about tactics, and the one thing conservatives have failed to do that the other side does very successfully, is that you hit the enemy on all fronts. You create new fronts, and hit them there. You make them use all their resources dealing with every issue being driven home. You keep them off balance. The MSM press to keep credibility will have to cover them somewhat. It will cause Obumble to be under that much more heavy stress and possibly snap while cameras are rolling.
This is why I don’t believe this post. we listen to this poster, we wind up doing what we always do, giving the other side breathing room and time to regroup. So what if Biden becomes president. At least nobody will in the democrat party, the media or the pundits will be going around saying what a smart guy he is as everyone knows he’s an idiot. He won’t get much cover especially because he can’t help but say stupid things anytime a camera’s on him. At least Biden doesn’t have a foreign-bred hate of the country like Obama does. We can survive a Biden, if crap really got bad I really believe he’d know he was in the deep sh1t and tell the people under him “you do what you gotta do”. Besides after four years of Obumble and Plugs, there is no doubt we have the WH back with a conservative grown up in charge.
???
Yeah, and in what reality would that occur? All another conservative-led impeachment of a second Democrat president in a row would accomplish, would be to turn wide swaths of the American public even further away from the conservative agenda.
Well, I’m sure not going to hold my breath for this to happen. He may, although I doubt it, get impeached, but I’m betting he won’t leave office until next election.
Perhaps you would deign to explain what ‘THE conservative agenda’ is? ... You seem large on denigrating conservatives who want to remove the cancer from the Oval Office, yet have not offered anything constructive in opposition to trying to remove an affirmative action socialist. Why not try to offer an alternative notion of how to save the dying Republic?
This article is correct.
Doesn’t make sense to impeach him. He’s doing a great job of making himself look horrible. Better to clean house by elections in 2010 and 2012.
Impeachment will only make the Right look like aggressors.
Remember, the MSM is still in leftist hands.
