Since we became aware the Joe Sestak was offered a position by the administration in exchange for dropping out of the race against Arlen Specter, there have been calls for impeachment. Small at first, but growing in strength in the past week, these calls can threaten to derail the progress that we have been making. In fact, I would submit that impeaching Obama is a terrible idea. (Mind you, this is assuming that we win enough seats in November to even try.)
Impeachment puts Obama on the defense, and that might play to his strengths. I like to keep in mind that Obama is really a community organizer. Hes not a leader, or a uniter, hes an Alinskyite-to the bone. Part of their game is to portray themselves as the victim(s), and their opposition as the oppressor. While Obama doesnt know how to speak without a prompter, go to a foreign country without bowing to someone, or how to handle a national crisis, he does know how to distort, lie, deflect, smear, and pay power politics with people. Those are his strengths, and impeaching him pushes him right back onto them.
Put him on the defensive, and we might just get to see what he is really good at. Race cards will be played. Narratives will be written and rewritten. The MSM will fabricate or selectively cover whatever it takes to defend Obama. Rent-a-mob will be purchased and deployed. The people prompting the impeachment will find themselves on the defensive in short order. Also, dont forget that in politics, its always easier to play to role of the principled defense. Just ask the GOP. Theyve been able to stay on message as a united front (with the exception of some RINOs). For that, theyre polling higher, and are looking to make some significant gains come November.
Putting him under attack will also likely energize his base. Theyre not so active right now. They had to pay Purple People Beaters to show up for Martha Coakley in January. They probably had to pay the People Beaters to show up and scare the stuffing out of a teenager last week. However, threaten his presidency, and the zombies will awaken. That might put us on the defensive literally (not that particularly bothers me, I see it as an eventuality anyway) .
Another reason to avoid impeachment is that it takes us off message and task. No matter what, our agenda should be put forward. Lower taxes, less spending, smaller government, school choice, repealing ObamaCare, and repairing the damage that Obama has caused should be front and center. Impeaching Obama will take time and political capital, both of which are in short supply, and neither can be squandered. The stakes are simply too high. We either stop correcting damage, and getting the country back on track, or we spend time trying to remove a sitting President; a task that has never been accomplished.
The third reason centers on the fact that Obama is failing already. Hes taking heat for the slow reaction time on the oil spill. He is increasing alienating his lapdogs in the media, and theyre starting to notice. All the Easter Eggs that were in ObamaCare are becoming public. He is now a laughing stock overseas, and belligerent nations are taking his presidency as an excuse to become more aggressive. They can say that the economy and jobs are getting better, but Main Street says otherwise, and a few hundred thousand-census workers are about to lose their jobs. Democratic candidates are running against him, and treat him like the plague. In fact, almost every candidate that he has campaigned for has lost. Its not an impressive record. Its going to get worse, and more and more people are noticing. If you impeach him, you actually distract from his own record of failure, making him the victim instead of Jimmy Carter 2.0.
Ive often said that Obama, in and of himself, is irrelevant. Hes only the latest progressive thats trying to destroy the Republic. Clinton, Kerry, or any other Democrat could have won, and wed be still facing the same challenges that we are tackling now. Its the agenda that we need to target, not the man. If we stick with ideas, people will see what a disaster the Obama Presidency is, and will continue to be. Impeach him, and it becomes personal, and he can use his skills to make himself a sympathetic character that is being set upon by those evil Conservatives that dont want a black man to be president.
Dont play into his hands. Instead, lets send him home in January of 2013 as a failure-because he is. Lets also make sure take he takes failed, statist ideas with him as well.
You have to have overwhelming evidence for all of those, and the political will to see it through. Do you think that we can win enough of the House and Senate to pull it off? You’d need super-majorities in both houses.
Yes, Impeachment is the process by which the House determines that there have been “high crimes or misdemeanors” sufficient to refer to the Senate for a trial. A simple majority vote is needed. The Senate does the trial, presided over by the Chief Justice of the SCOTUS. If they find him guilty(by a two thirds majority), then he can be removed.
Do you have some useful to contribute, or are you going to act like a lib and throw insults?
I someone can show me that there is a way to get him out of office that is iron-clad, please do so. I welcome debate and argument.
This is getting a real “mafia” kind of feel to it. Given the players, I guess that should be expected. I would also expect that Obama will “take care” of Emanuel, as long as he stays on the reservation. He’ll get pardoned, and a nice, lucrative job will be waiting for him. I don’t think he’ll talk.
Anyone that writes a blog should be executed!
Leave the name calling to the left, and show me where I’m wrong. I’d happily admit it and move on. We need to stay on facts and ideas, not on personal attacks. We’re not ACORN, or a bunch of (Dis)Organizing for America trolls.
Well at least we could criticize him without being called a racist
+1
Very good article.
You raise good points. If we can’t win electorally, then we’re hosed no matter what we do.
Going along those lines, if we can win an election, then we can’t get to the point of impeaching him anyway.
We’ve been in a war of ideas for 100 years. Obama is little more than the current standard bearer for those ideas. Do we attack the failed ideas, or the man? We can remove the man from power, and the ideas will remain. If we win the battle of ideas, and we can, both the ideas and the man are defeated.
Yes. Any enduring political body needs an edifice of ideas that is more important than the physical edifice. A system of thought needs to be consistent. Consistency applied to a human being is called integrity. If the edifice of public policy, i.e. its philosophy, is not consistent, it can’t endure, and the body politic will not endure.
It is ironic to think that the only elected POTUS to be impeached holds Obamaâs future in his hands. If Bubba wants Obama to join him in that infamous list of impeached presidents, all he has to do is tell the truth. Will Bubba lie for Obama or not?
Thanks. I seem to have cause a stir with this one.
In view of the process, whether or not he should be impeached is a purely academic exercise.
“WHen someone is so EVIL and literally destroying our country, if we can impeach him, we MUST. “
Only problem with that is... that if we just impeach Obama.... the rest of the administration remains in tact. And how much better will it be with Biden running the show?
If there was a way to recall and have another Election now then that is different and so long as that is the case then we need to have a strong candidate. Otherwise, the left will then try the same tricks on whoever wins on the Right.
You do understand that the whole Progressive part is rotten to core, right? Its how they chose Obama to win and how people who are as dangerous and even more so surround him.
Yes, but that doesn’t mean he will be removed, does it?
Obama should be impeached and I don’t care who succeeds him. Even a monkey would be better.
Seriously, Biden is a buffoon and an idiot, but the press is not in awe of him as they seem to be of Obama.
If the MSM would just start in on Obama, he wouldn’t last a month.
This chump is staying here. Get over yourself.
“I think the term that best describes Obama is hubris.”
He’s a malignant narcissist, and the malignancy has spread throughout our country.
