Regarding Romney he also created a super political problem for himself by signing the Massachusetts healthcare bill into law. The Massachusetts healthcare plan is similar to Obamacare in many aspect. Like Obamacare it is not an outright take over of the private healthcare system but also like Obamacare it certainly leads to massive spending, more taxes to get the money for spending, and on the long run in may very well lead to the destructive socialized medicine. Of course Obamacar is nationwide whereas Romneycare is Massachusetts but still it is a super problem for Romney if he decides to run for President.
I would like to see the nomination won by a good Republican governor who has governed at least for two terms or even a a strong Republican Senator but my preference is for the experienced governor.
The voters would decide in 2012 who is the Republican nominee and who is the President. Hopefully we will defeat Obama and his destructive socialism in the 2012 elections.
Did you happen to notice the source of the posted article? Perhaps you want to research that a bit before you limit the appeal of Sarah Palin.
I would like to see the nomination won by a good Republican governor who has governed at least for two terms or even a a strong Republican Senator but my preference is for the experienced governor.Other than Haley Barbour (who would have more problems than Sarah Palin appealing to voters outside the base, IMO), who else fits your criteria?
Whether she runs in the primaries or not, she has done quite well financially since leaving office and is the only Republican politician out there who has made any real impact on the 2010 campaign. She has put the Rinosaurs who run the Republican Party and believe making nice with Marxists is the way to survive (frankly, I think most of them are afraid of winning ... it means having to, gulp!, take responsibility) on notice that their days are numbered.
If a better candidate comes along I will cheerfully vote for him or her. But in the meantime, who do you feel that person may be? Certainly not a political chameleon like Romney.
“Despite the impression we may get on Free Republic, Sarah Palin appeal is limited in the Republican base. It is limited to a portion of the conservative base and not all the conservative base let alone the moderates Republicans and independents who vote Republicans where her appeal is rather small.”
Replace Palin’s name with Reagan, and your quote PERFECTLY describes 1978, an election year that I remember VERY WELL. In that year, I was one of those people who thought that Reagan was too extreme and that Bush was just right...so I voted for Bush - but Reagan got the nomination, and I came around to him...particularly after looking at the alternative.
Conservatives make up 40% of the country, Independents 40%, and liberals 20% (roughly speaking). Conservatives, of course, have never liked Obama, but Independents did like Obama - but now they’ve flipped, and I suspect that many of them (i.e., the ones with good health plans) will think VERY HARD about voting to re-elect Obama, regardless of who’s on the ticket from the Republican side (just like me in 1980).
The only question left open is whether Palin can get the base out. If she behaves like a conservative - she owns them - if she gets flaky, then she’s no better than Romney. Romney himself will NEVER get the base out, so he’s hopeless. Newt is simply a flake. Someone like Duncan Hunter - who knows - he certainly didn’t have any luck in 2008 firing up the base. But Palin ALREADY has the base, she only needs to keep it. And that is what scares the daylights out of the Dems.
You're already known for being totally against Sarah Palin. I am fine with that. I do not expect everyone here to be FOR her, but whenever praise is warranted, I believe praise should be granted to her and that's a rarity here from those who don't like her. Constructive criticism is good and competition is what makes all candidates better.
Distortions are never helpful and opinions are merely opinions.

Sarah Palin now lags Obama only 45-47 after showing deficits of eight or seven points in each of the last three months. Both Obama and Palin have increased their base support, but Palin now trails Obama among independents 39-46 versus 35-49 in March.
