what can the federal government do?

Day one BP admitted that the Feds have the equipment to survey and deal with this crisis. Since then the Feds have insisted that the solution rests squarely in BP's hands.

We have the largest and most sophisticated navy in the world, capable of working at extreme depths with massive enterprises.

Obama's response has been to allow this crisis to worsen for his own political advantage. This tactic will blow up in his face.

I have been nisisting that this spill will not amount to a hill of beans. I did not consider the administration's conspiratorial interest in making it as bad as possible.

There are several issues which the criminal administration can derive leverage for through exploitation of the crisis in the Gulf.

Maxine Waters revealed the primary agenda, to take over the oil companies/control the oil industry.

Making petroleum based fuel/energy more scarce in Amerika by imposing extreme regulation now, as Ram-it-through Emanuel has said: '(A Crisis) allows you to do things you normally could not do.'

Government expansion of federal oligarchical powers.

Indirectly bringing the Amerikan people more under government dependency ... control over fuel equates to indirect controls over food production, distribution, and of course the ever useful 'scarcities' which translate into even more regulatory federal oligarchical controls.

And last but by no means least, the expanding regulatory mindset means massive additions to the federal bureaucracy, which means greater oligarchical control because there are even more government employs to vote themselves security in democrat controlled 'governance'.

Exactly. Obama and the feds passed the buck on this from day one. He barely commented after the explosion and focused his attention and efforts squarely on Arizona.
