Benishek will repeal, Jason will overhaul

From a news release May 20th, 2010:

BENISHEK PLEDGES TO REPEAL OBAMACARE Iron River, MI – Dr. Benishek pledged this week to sponsor legislation to repeal the Obamacare Bill that was forced through Congress by the Democrats earlier this year, with Bart Stupak delivering the pivotal support necessary for passage. He signed the Club for Growth pledge, aboard a bus while finishing the last stretch of his “Enough if Enough” tour of Michigan’s 1st Congressional District.

“The so called “Health Care Reform Bill passed by Congress earlier was not the will of the people and it will not increase the quality of care, in fact it will lower it,” said Dr. Benishek, “It’s good for neither a patient’s health nor a patient’s wallet.”

The “Repeal It Pledge” has been signed by lawmakers, candidates and citizens from across the nation. As of today, State Senator Jason Allen has not signed the pledge.

Dr. Dan Benishek is a general surgeon who is running for the vacated seat in the First District of Michigan, previously held by Bart Stupak.

Jason Allen, State Senator from Traverse City, who moved to the First District to run for Congress has a different take on the so-called healthcare bill.

Before anyone starts yelling at me for dogging Jason Allen, I want to point out the differences in philosophy, that is all.

I’ve spoken with Dan numerous times, and he is a principled conservative. Even when Obama has said, “They’re actually going to run on a platform of repeal in November…Go for it,” Dan is holding firm. Why?

Because he knows what it will do to healthcare and the country.

Now, when asked recently what he would do about the healthcare plan, Jason Allen said the legislation needed to be overhauled and repealed.

“I’m looking for a positive discussion on how to get government spending in check, create jobs, and overhaul and repeal the Obama health care plan.”

Overhauled and repealed? Why would you overhaul something, in an effort presumably, to make it less objectionable, then repeal it?

Perhaps he meant that upon taking office, his first move would be to work within the system offering legislation to cushion the blow of this nasty take over of our freedoms.

But, that is the wrong approach.

The proper approach to tyranny is conservatism., a philosophy, the only philosophy that can thwart this path we are on to despotism. Working within the system, offering bits of legislation, taking nibbles at the Obamacare monstrosity is exactly what we do not need.

No, we don’t need someone who will happily work with the Democrats and come to an agreement.

Dan said it right in my Exclusive Interview with Dan Benishek:

I asked Dan if he plans on repealing the bill.

“That’s my goal.”

What’s the first step?

“As I said, we need to elect people to congress who will vote to repeal it, then try to defund the bill as best as we can.”

But the people need to vote, if we can’t get conservatives elected, and a whole lot of them, this can’t be changed.

My question for Jason Allen is, if you can’t stand up to Jennifer Granholm, how can you possibly stand up to Obama?

All you need to know about Jason Allen is that he's owned by the SEIU who in their own bylaws state that control of the health care industry is their goal.

On Aug. 5, 2009, Sen. Jason Allen, R-Traverse City, introduced Senate Bill 731, which would give statutory cover to a scheme transferring approximately $6.6 million in taxpayer money annually to the SEIU government employee union, one of the parents of ACORN. This is accomplished by creating a shell government "employer" for some 42,000 individuals who are actually hired by elderly or disabled Medicaid recipients to provide personal care services in their homes. A Mackinac Center lawsuit is pending regarding a similar arrangement imposed on home day care providers.

Snip

passing the bill was part of a quid-pro-quo between Senate Republicans and the SEIU for union support of former state representative Mike Nofs in a November 2009 special election, which state Republican Party Chair Ron Weiser had characterized as among the party's top priorities. Day observes that the SEIU endorsed Nofs on August 22nd, two weeks after SB 731 was introduced, and sent four full-time workers to help on his campaign.

GOP Senators, SEIU Taxpayer Giveaways, Campaign Cash and More, OH MY!

deary me, yeah I know about this cripplecreek, methinks Allen is right now trying to come up with a good reason why he did that....something having to do with the abuse of the elderly, which I believe he will use to scare the older folks in the first. Just my opinion.

We’re in serious need of a good hard scrubbing in Lansing as well as DC.

Rooney skipping the right to life banquet to go fund raising with the main street republicans doesn’t look good at all.

A few basic questions:

Who is Jason Allen?

Is Stupak's seat officially vacant now?

If so, what is the date for the special election to fill it?

Stupak lame-ducked himself. He’s seated until the next election.

I think he’s probably better known than Allen.

Your link refers to "the office formerly held by Bart Stupak." I presume, from your other post, that it is incorrect since you state that Stupak will serve out his term as a lame duck and is still in office until next Juanuary.

Am I correct to infer that Benishek and Allen will face off in a Republican primary? If so, when would that happen?
