Border Patrol does not need to establish probable cause to detain anyone.Follow their instructions to the letter. They can rip your car apart and don't even have to leave you with a wrench, duct tape and a screwdriver.
You don't like it? Tough.
We are at war.
What I want to know is why the Southern border is not as strict!
I cross the Canadian border once a month on average. I have never had a problem beause I have good manners and always answer their questions truthfully to the very best of my ability.Put yourselves in their shoes ,protecting the border and conversing with hundreds of people on an 8 hour shift, where anyone of them might have a bomb in the trunk.
Kudos to the border patrol!
This Canadian on the tape doesn't know squat. If he didn't know the store he was going to , he could have said , "I don't know," and left it at that.

I only include this to point out that this guy is likely not just a random Canadian traveller who just happened to tape his crossing.
I have been through the border crossings in Vermont and Maine about a dozen times and I have never had a hard time. If you give respect, you will receive respect. Heck it works with interactions with you waiter or dry cleaner, too.
I've never met a rude agent on the Canadian side. In fact quite to the contrary, they're usually very friendly. They've engaged me in casual conversation, even to the point of joking "well you're not a terrorist, are ya, eh?" It's also always very quick - I think the longest I've ever been interviewed by the Canadian guards is about a minute before being politely waved through.
The New York side is a completely different story. 9 times out of 10 the guy has been a complete and absolute @$$hole. Usually it's absurd probing questions about where you are going, most of them asked simply because the guy can. The worst - and I've had it 2-3 times - is when they pick you out for a "random inspection." I drive up, roll down the window, hand them the passports of everyone inside and before I can so much as say hello out comes some @$$hole with a thick New York accent screaming "Your vehicle is being subjected to a random inspection! Pop your trunk. Are you carrying any firearms, explosives or illegal substances! Is there anything in this trunk that may harm MY officer?"
There's something seriously wrong with our country when it's more of a hassle for an American citizen to RETURN HOME to the United States than it is to travel as a guest into another country when leaving it.
You think that they’ll ever get close to this level of intensity at the southern border?
When dealing with these types it is best to just answer their questions and “Yes Sir & No Sir” them.
I’ve been through plenty of traffic stops and with the exception of 1 black cop in Atlanta I’ve never even been ticketed much less searched and my car gone through.
If you question their authority they give you special attention. You do not want “Special” attention.
BTW spelchkur iz ur freind.
Wow, Clive, have you heard this?
I thought I was treated poorly last Christmas, but not like this...
“When an officer tells you to do something you do it.”
BINGO! Yes sir. No sir. Thank you sir. The officer has the gun and the power.
Maybe the guy at the booth was having a bad day, but the officer talking to him inside was very polite. Guy driving car was an obnoxious ass looking for an argument. If he would shut up he would have been out of there alot quicker.
Whoop tee doo. Shame these border agents can’t do this all along the southern border of Amerika.
I find this humorous because tons of illegals come into the US daily, they don’t get questioned, they get food stamps, a charge card and free doctor visits.
*snort*
I see both sides of this issue. Some of the “stupid” questions the agents ask are for a reason. Think of how they caught that girl once in Germany whose “boyfriend” had packed her suitcase, said he would meet her in the middle east, and sent her to her certain death if they hadn’t found the bomb. Asking this Canadian on the tape “Is this your girlfriend?” when they heard it was his wife might be to trip him up. They are looking for consistency.
You don’t HAVE to come to the USA to shop. It’s good if you do, but then sit there in your car and be respectful, and answer even the stupid questions calmly.
The agent said he saw 3 terrorists a day trying to cross in.
On the other hand, agents are NOT VERY CONSIDERATE of foreigners entering this country. I have experienced this firsthand because I used to be married to a foreigner, and we would go through customs at JFK together. Um, NOT a picnic to be in the foreigner line there. So I know there could be more consideration.
But I really would like to prevent a 9/11. So I am OK with it, for the most part.
