Obama is a confused young man...confused as to who he is and confused about the very manner in which a person (or a country) is defined.
Saying a country is defined by its bonds instead of its boundaries is like saying a person is not defined by himself, but by his friends.
This is a pre-adolescent kind of notion.
Grown-ups may have friends or they may be hermits. But they are defined by their internal nature--their ethical qualities--and their willingness to manifest those qualities by their actions.
In fact, a person who holds his friendships more important than his character probably has very little of either.
