With greater calls for renewable power, it's worthwhile looking at the data for the Harsh Winter just gone. With a huge spike in electricity consumption, even larger than for the last two Winters, the coal fired sector showed a significant increase. In fact every sector bar one increased the power they supplied to the grids. The only sector that didn't was that renewable sector. The U.S. currently has the greatest amount of Wind Power on Earth, 38,000MW of Nameplate Capacity, the equivalent of 19 large scale coal fired plants. For those 90 days of Winter, every wind tower in America supplied less power than just 4 of those 19 plants. As for Solar power, every Solar plant in America supplied what can only be described as a tiny amount of power. In fact, just one of those equivalent coal fired plants supplied as much power as every solar plant did, and it supplied it in just one day of those 90 days of Winter.
What a total crock of shit this entire bill is. Joe Lieberman should be ashamed of himself. I can see Kerry going for something like this. Maybe they switched Lieberman’s usual Geritol with Kool Aid instead.
Both are untrustworthy morons.
Both should be retired.
Just proving what every mechanical, Electrical and Chemical Engineer has known since graduating with their degrees! This renewable energy concept is alot of Liberal Crap!
Question: When the wind energy advocates point out the potential for that source to supply a given percentage of the country’s needs, do they ever check their notes against the eco crowd that will never let them buld that many towers all across the land? Maybe we could build windmills that pop out from underground silos when the wind is blowing.
Oh wait, we’d then have to compare the demand curve to the supply curve and come to the conclusion that the two rarely match. Drat that physics!
I believe WP in the UK was even worse this winter, producing O powe because the wind was from the wrong direction. Only highly subsidized could they be built.
barbra ann
At least back when windmills were used to pump water from wells in America, they were smart enough to put swivels on them, LOL.
