Specter is spending money heavily, and has turned the momentum around in the race v. Sleestak. (I’m NOT predicting Specter wins, incidentally.) Sleestak is also spending each dime as he takes it in. All this leaves Toomey going from underdog in the money battle to king.
Also: In Ohio, Brunner and Fisher spent every penny they had. They certainly earned the statewide name recognition. Meanwhile, Portman now has a nearly 10:1 money advantage over them. His lead is down to insignificantly small, but the point is that they’ve already spent their money shaping who they are (without slinging very much mud at each other), but Portman has yet to take his turn at bat.
Both races on paper look close, but have the Republican looking very healthy.
That is true. Sestak has been spending very heavily to get where he is. While the DNC will, no doubt, help him in the fall, the primary is not until next week. Toomey can begin his spending once he knows who he will be facing.
