I don’t see a problem: the windshield wiper works fine.

Yep. the car’s frontal crumple zone preserved that truck rear bumper very nicely. Wouldn’t you say?
Most excellent engineering.

The automatic brake is that structure hanging down from the back of the trailer and it seems to have worked fine.

I can't give you chapter and verse, but 22mph into a large, heavy steel object is one hell of an energy absorption.
There would have been much more damage to an 'old' vehicle.

Volvo is stating that someone installed a Toyota gas pedal in the car by mistake. The problem will be rectified for the next test.

There would have been much more damage to an 'old' vehicle. There would have been more damage to "old" occupants, back in the day before crumple zones. Volvo led the way with those features.

There would have been much more damage to an 'old' vehicle. Not likely. Older cars were built *not* to crumple, and transmitted most of the destructive force to the occupants. Newer cars are built to crumple and thus absorb a lot of the impact, better protecting the occupants.

Did someone say "Hold my beer, watch this. My car can stop all by itself."
Looks like someone forgot to calibrate the proximity sensor.

An onler vehicle would have a steel, rail type frame, a steel bumper and the wieght to transmit its own energy in the form of pushing the truck forward. That car is headed to the crusher while the old car could be repaired. All things considered Ill take my chances in my 76 plymouth fury two door. That beast would have driven me home after hittin that truck.

Bingo! The real pioneer of this was NASCAR. Who hasn’t seen a massive crash where the car is turned to scrap and then the drive crawls out and waves? The instinct is to say, “How did he survive THAT?!” The answer is the same: All the things that make the wreck look horrific actually use energy and thereby protect the driver.
Run an old steel framed “built ‘em like they used to” car into a fixed or large object at 22mph, and the car would probably be just fine. But the occupants would be going on a trip to the hospital - or the morgue.
Short version: Yup, they “don’t build ‘em like they used to.” Thank God.
