I think you're right, It was his strength and power that got him to that level along with his personal conditioning program which also includes running.
For a "non sport", it certainly has taken its toll on many, many players, professional and amateurs alike. Unfortunately for this sport, it's always the back or neck or shoulder or elbow which seems to be the weakest link and easiest to start breaking down.
I think he'll overcome this injury but he's going to have to realize that he's at an age in his life now where his body is starting to develope a mind of its own and no longer willing to put up with the demands that the head still wants to put on it..........

I agree with you, he cannot control the situations OFF the golf course.
Watching him leave the golf course I can tell you I saw no signs of buldging disc. Anyone with that would demonstrate a decrease of Cervical Range of Motion and show some sign of guarding and he showed none.
That is exactly why his swing coach Haney is resigning. (ie. It's between his ears)
His future success in golf is directly proportional to his mindset, which is kind of ironic.
