I read last week that the German public just found out in a big way that, while their retirement age is something like 65, the Greeks retire at 55. So the Germans are being asked to work a decade or so longer and also being asked to bail out Greeks who are RETIRED and living the life of ease.
That's gotta hurt.
But, you know what? The good ole U.S.A. is on the same road to Serfdom.
The problem here is not so much any attempt to "solve problems," but the fact that ridiculous promises are made in order to gain personal political power. Then when those promises cannot be delivered on, the slaves start rioting on the plantation. Then, to retain power, politicians have two choices: (1) brutally put down the civil unrest, or (2) make more promises and offer more goodies to placate the slaves until there is no choice but to do (1).
Greece/Europe may find itself at (1) here shortly. I hope not.
BTW, world Communists and Socialists and Envirowackos: is it okay with you that the world's greatest antiquities may be destroyed by moronic spoiled-brat rioting engendered by the stupidity of your failed Utopia?
And Portugal. Moody’s just put Portugal on review for downgrading.
This is ecconomic war.
Obama is out of the loop on this international stuff.
The real issue is who are the players and who profits from teh eu falling appart?
I don’t know — Ireland and Portugal have put in austerity measures and the populace has accepted them. Ireland has cut politicians and bureaucrats salaries (they cut those FIRST) and then cut benefits. The Irish people supported them. I don’t know about Italy or Spain though...
the Germans can only be pushed so far. They may very well return back to the DM
The US, Canada, China, Japan, India, Brazil etc. are all paying part of the Greek bailout (since all of these contribute to the IMF who is bailing out Greece)
