Leave it to an ecological disaster unfolding in the Gulf of Mexico and lapping up on the shores of Louisiana to put me and Sarah Palin on the same page. Usually, when the former Alaska governor issues something on Facebook, I roll my eyes at her empty rhetoric about common-sense conservative solutions or some-such. But on the issue of offshore drilling, Palin's Friday missive makes sense. There, I said it.
All responsible energy development must be accompanied by strict oversight, but even with the strictest oversight in the world, accidents still happen. No human endeavor is ever without risk whether its sending a man to the moon or extracting the necessary resources to fuel our civilization. I repeat the slogan drill here, drill now not out of naiveté or disregard for the tragic consequences of oil spills my family and my state and I know firsthand those consequences. How could I still believe in drilling Americas domestic supply of energy after having seen the devastation of the Exxon-Valdez spill? I continue to believe in it because increased domestic oil production will make us a more secure, prosperous, and peaceful nation.
No, domestic oil production alone will not make the United States more secure. I want to emphasize that this announcement is part of a broader strategy that will move us from an economy that runs on fossil fuels and foreign oil to one that relies on homegrown fuels and clean energy," President Obama said on March 31
In a New York Times opinion piece yesterday, Lisa Margonelli of the New America Foundation brought up an issue that Americans pushing for a halt to the president's plans as a result of the Deepwater Horizon disaster would do well to keep in mind. "Moratoriums have a moral problem," she wrote...

“drill here drill now”
How come none of my dates ever say that?
Palin continues to call it as it is. It has been many years since we on the red side last had someone so willing to stand up to the hysteria or concerns generated by acidents and the like. A leader. And fearless.
I’d bet if Romney was president he’d look at reducing or stopping drilling, if focus groups indicated that was the mood. Ditto Huck, Thune etc. That is the type of conservative we need to live with, unless we ensure a principled conservative is elected.
Funny
After 9-11, we didn’t stop building skyscrapers or flying airplanes!!!!
If Romney was president, all we’d need to do is tap the grease in his slicked back hair and we’d be set!
Of course, the partisan shill who wrote this denigrated Sarah Palin, and then followed her intelligent comments with the empty pro-Moslem sloganeering of his hero Zero. Thanks Bigtigermike.
She makes sense on just about everything I’ve heard her say. (Thankfully, I didn’t hear her supporting McPain, however. My guess is, even though I didnt like her doing it, what she said probably made more sense than McPain himself could make - just like it was in 2008.)
Palin will need a lot of our prayers over the next few months. The left will no doubt try to drag her name into the most recent events (and they have started already) while attempting to justify Zero’s antics with.....uh.....nearly everything.
Palin was not pushing offshore drilling -that was Obama. Palin was pushing land drilling in AWAR. There, if this accident happened, it would not be in the water; rather on land where it could be handled properly.
Good point.
