The Gulf of Mexico oil spill is a good test for the spines of todays Republican Party. One Republican has already passed the test, and as usual, thats Sarah Palin. The signs from the others are not encouraging.
A day after pundit Charles Krauthammer declared drill, baby, drill to be history in light of the spill, and two days after the Obama Administration halted all domestic drilling (gee, what a surprise), Palin came out and invoked her moral authority as an Alaskan who lived through the Exxon Valdez spill.

Agree
I disagree that Palin is the best PR for conservative principles. I find her speech, unless she’s reading prepared text, to be loopy and downright odd at times. If I was gonna be pulling for a chick, it would be Michele Bachmann, who seems to give better “on the spot” replies to reporters and to interviewers.
That being said, I like Palin. She is strong in many areas. Just ain’t my #1.

My opinion is that there are a few that are superior to both Palin and Bachmann in annuciating conservative views. And there have been dozens over the past 20 years or so.
But that is hardly the point I’m making.
These are either untrustworthy (Newt, and Rubio now too - as soon as he is in the lead!) or not viable national candidates at this stage(Bachmann) or ignored by the media (boring etc, Daniels).
The point is Palin is energising conservatives, and pushing conservative views whilst in the media spotlight, hence the public in general. And she is both a woman and charismatic. She is a contender for those and many other reasons.
You know pissant, I don’t think we disgree that much, I just want to see a true conservative president, one that I trust, and although I make not agree 100%, its way better than tilting at windmills with unelectable candidates or voting for electable candidates that are closet RINOs.
Support who you want, and I reserve the right to change my mind in the future too, but in the interim, I’m not going to denigrate Palin or any other conservative (as against RINOs), and don’t. Simple as that - we lose by bringing down our own, as it plays in the hands of Romney/Pawlenty/Huck supporters.
Sure Hunter’s a good guy, but as Ann Coulter said, while he’s pretty much perfect or as close to it as possible, hardly anyone knows about him (except maybe the more knowledgable conservatives).
